Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be a pleasurable experience if you're prepared. We've compiled a list of essential travel tips that will help get your Nelson vacation started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- The trick to having an amazing flight experience is to pack ahead. Start with the essentials: passport, official ID, credit cards and any vital medications. Next, take on board items that'll help keep you occupied, like some electronic gadgets or a magazine. It's also smart to pack your chargers, a neck pillow and a pair of earphones. And of course, be sure to squeeze in toiletries like a toothbrush, deodorant and a clean set of clothes.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Leave all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hair gel in your checked baggage. Any gels or liquids in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated. Sharp or pointed objects, like your Swiss Army knife, and products which are explosive or flammable, such as aerosol cans, spray paint and strong acids, are also not allowed.
What to wear on a flight:
- Your goal here is to feel as comfortable as possible. Dress in loose, breathable clothing and don't forget to pack a jacket just in case you get cold. Go for a pair of well-fitting, flat shoes as your feet may swell a little during the journey. Leave the stilettos and heavy hiking boots in your main luggage.
- Most travelers are aware of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by long periods of sitting. There's plenty you can do to lower your risk. Wear compression socks or tights, drink lots of water and move your legs and feet. Do a lap or two of the cabin or perform some stretches in your seat.
