This is a very old hotel and the rooms are very old too. The saving grace are the staff. They are ALL fantastic. One person in particular needs a special mention is Mr Chandika the reception manager. He was just amazingly helpful. M

The Grand Oriental is a wonderful building. Unfortunately it has been unsympatheticly renovated many years ago and is tired and worn which maked it difficult for staff to keep it clean. On the plus side its $1.50 $AUS tuk tuk ride any nunber of great places. It's got a great dinnig room, open all day And the staff are terrifically helpful And it was only $35 aus a night. I arrived at 1.30 am and it was a bit of a shock but after 4 nights I'd stay there again

The property is old and not maintained well. First room no hot water on first night. Second day water flooding due to AC break down in room. Room change on second day. Limited choice for breakfast. Daily choice of eggs toast butter jam and tea and coffee. Very difficult to order from menu for Lunch or Dinner, Buffet choice every day.

夜になると部屋の天井でネズミかイタチが走り回っていて驚いた。 予約時に朝食は付いている内容だったが、入店拒否をされた。 シャワーの湯量が著しく少なく、非常に時間を要した。 wifiは電波が弱く度々停止する状況。 値段相応の施設なので、疲労している場合は選ぶべきではないと思いました。

建物は古いが、昔は高級感有ったと思います。お値段がリーズナブルでその点は良いと思います。朝早くチェックアウトも出来てここからフォート駅に向かい観光の始まりになりました。

全てにおいて何も考えられていない設計

表向きの玄関からきれいなホテルかと思いきや、年月騒音の古さは問題ないのですが、メンテナンス清掃が全く行き届いていませんでした。まずトイレに入った瞬間、Gが2匹出てきました　タオルラックは使っているときに脱落しタオルが落ちて水浸しになりました。シャワーは水しか出ず。それはよくあることなので100歩譲っても上のかけるところが高すぎるのと角度があっておらず自分にお湯がかかりません。どこをとっても使いづらく、何も考えられてない設計に苛立ちすら思いました。スタッフも朝食の説明など一切なくハードだけでなく、ソフト面でも、もう使いたくないと思いました

Developmental needs

It was not an amazing experience to say that I might not stay in that hotel in my December visit most probably for two reasons: 1) Room service is not listening to requests- I asked guys to provide with just few milk sachets and I did the request to reception too. They just said ok but did not execute. 2) The bath tub is bit slippery and water was not flowing out smoothly. I told about this to room service but nobody attended for that too.

I truly enjoyed my stay here. I loved the historical significance of this hotel. I rated it exceptionally well because one must understand that the hotel is over 175 years old. Sri Lanka has to recognize the importance of preserving this historical part of town. So much potential in these golden age buildings

Altes, kostengünstiges Hotel

Wir waren das dritte Mal während des Urlaubs im Grand Oriental und wussten daher, was uns erwartet. Das Hotel ist baufällig, nach wie vor günstig gelegen, das Frühstück gut und die Übernachtungskosten niedrig. Die Klimaanlage im Foyer könnte mal eine Überholung gebrauchen, die Luft, die sie verströmt, riecht nicht gerade frisch. Auf unserem Zimmer, das sehr geräumig und u.a. mit Kühlschrank, funktionierendem Tresor und bequemer Matratze ausgestattet war, kam angenehme Luft aus der Klimaanlage. Worüber ich mich geärgert habe, ist, dass ich alte Frau meinen schweren Rucksack selbst schleppen musste. Keiner der livrierten Herren, die um die Rezeption herumstanden, fühlte sich berufen.

Hotel mit kleinen Mängeln, aber wir kommen wieder

Das Hotel hat bessere Zeiten erlebt, daher ist es preisgünstig. Hervorragende Lage! Stadtrundgang, Weg zum Abendessen (im Dutch Hospital - sehr zu empfehlen!) vom Hotel aus zu Fuß zu starten. Geräumiges Zimmer mit großem Schrank, Kosmetiktisch, Sofa, -tisch, Fernseher, Wasserkocher (Instantkaffee, Teebeutel), AC. Superbequeme Matratze Frühstücksbuffet (im großen Harbour Room - Blick auf Containerhafen) bietet für jeden Geschmack etwas. Toast mit Butter und Marmelade, Kuchen, Eierspeisen, Obst, zwei warme Curry-Gerichte mit Brot/Reis – sehr lecker. Nach fehlendem fragen! Joghurt / Wasser z.B. standen nicht bereit, gab es aber. Wir sind nicht pingelig, Staubbelag auf Möbeln, in Ecken stört uns nicht. Kühlschrank kühlt trotz Höllenlärm nicht. Im Schrank: zwei kleine Tresore. Einer festverschraubt – tot! Der zweite, einfach so in den Schrank gestellte, piepte auf Tastendruck. Tür leider zu - auch nicht nutzbar. Angestellter konnte nicht weiterhelfen, versprach wiederzukommen, ward nicht mehr gesehen. Wasser in Dusche nur lauwarm, Wasser aus Hahn am Waschbecken zum Fingerverbrennen heiß. Wenige Steckdosen. Wer mehreres gleichzeitig laden möchte: Dreifachsteckdose einpacken! Am Ausreisetag mussten wir "nur" bis zur Busstation. Van des Hauses wurde nicht angeboten. Wir hätten dafür bezahlt.In TulTuk gequetscht - für 2 normalgroße Europäer, 2 große, 2 kleine Rucksäcke arg knapp. Aber: wir kommen wieder her. Wenn man weiß, worauf man sich einlässt, ist das Hotel empfehlenswert.

最悪です

設備が古すぎる。 テレビがブラウン管　懐かしい 虫がいる　ゴキブリ、ハエ、蚊、その他 掛けふとんが無い トイレットペーパーが無い 電源が少ない セキュリティボックスが無い スタッフの態度が非常に悪い 部屋の鍵が大きくて重い 外観の写真に騙されないように 近所に酒を売っている

値段相応のホテルです。4000円で泊まれるので値段重視の方には良いと思います。徒歩でパブやレストランまで行くことができます。部屋は空調は良いですが、冷蔵庫は使えず、風呂場の排水は悪くドンドン溜まっていきます。温水は出ますが水圧は弱いです。風景も期待はできないと思います。リキシャは近くに停まっているので、移動には困らないと思います。

Ein Hotel mit Geschichte. Man spürt den Geist des Reisens. Es ist ein großer Augenblick für mich in diesem ehrwürdigen Hotel zu übernachten. Die Drinks und der Seafood-Salat im 4. Stock mit grandioser Aussicht sind empfehlenswert. Die Betten sind ausgezeichnet.
