  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

Clean, comfortable and the price was right

Quick overnight trip, but it was perfect for us road-weary travelers. Clean and beds were comfortable. Really couldn’t have asked for more. Would love to come back when I can stay a while.

The property met my needs. It was clean and nicely decorated. The snacks and coffee maker were appreciated. The rental is lacking clothes hanging space. It had one shallow depth closet. I rented to attend a wedding, so lack of hanging space was inconvenient for my formal attire. The rental has one bathroom, downstairs, not ideal for a 68-year old who needs to go at night. Additionally the storm door was partially off the hinges. The property manager said they would send someone to repair it, but it did not get repaired during my 3-night stay. Overall, the property was conveniently located and the bed was comfortable.

Arrived on Sunday night and drove around for about 10 mins trying to find said “readily available” parking. Luckily there was a parking garage that’s charges $20 per 10 hrs (so diff on hourly) in the middle of a storm I had to lug my bags down a block to the house, which luckily was easy to find as it was on a closed street. Has an auto lock and nest thermostat, night lights throughout. Black out curtains. Nice shared backyard. There is noise on the weekends I imagine, based off Sunday PM/AM hours. The entrance inside smelled like urine??? However, the place was very nicely decorated and there was dishware to cook and eat off. Water pitcher filter as well. Coffee by the pot/cup. The bedrooms were very nicely decorated as well. Bed was comfortable no complaints, the dim lighting on the stairs was a bit of a pain if you’re one with glasses or struggle in depth perception as the stairs are stained a dark color. Possible loose board on the lower step?? The bathroom was finicky to flush and however, a happy medium was found to keep the water in the reservoir. It did its job. Rainfall head was a nice detail to keep up with the jungle theme. Towels were readily available throughout the stay in rooms. Very unique details, all jungle themed. Especially the rain noises, myself not a huge fan just at the time I arrived in a dark house. There is a hole in the step to get to the entrance of the patio, so be careful if you have a toddler or use a cane.
Parking under said tree in front of the neighbors house, got my newly detailed car -covered- in sticky sap. Parking during week is easier than weekend. However a parking garage is around the corner about a block down from where the place is.
