A short ferry ride but a world away from the crowds in Mykonos is the marvelous archaeological site of Delos. What was once among the most important religious centers of Ancient Greece is now one of the best preserved archaeological sites in all of Greece. The entire island is set aside as an archaeological park and is largely free to explore. The small rocky islet of Delos is part of the Cyclades and is located a few miles south-west of Mykonos Greece. According to mythology, Delos is the birthplace of Apollo, god of music, of true and light, and his twin sister Artemis, goddess of hunting.

Delos is one the the many small islands that form the Cyclades archipelago in Greece. Despite its small size, it is home to one of the most important archeological sites in Greece and well worth the detour. If, like me, you find yourself stuck on Mykonos which has very little to offer (other than partying), Delos is easily accessible from there by boat.
