Division No. 2, Alberta hotel rooms at the Independent

"The cleanliness of our room could have been much better. We found stained sheets and duvet covers, brown smears on the bathroom door and the bathtub was outdated and dirty. There was hair in the tub and in the bathroom. We found the phone not working, the air conditioner non functional, and had to ask for help with why outlets weren’t working to charge devices, only to find certain light switches needed to be on in order for them to function. Breakfast was fine, and better than nothing, but having it closed at 9 for any of the warm items meant having to set an alarm to get up to partake. That’s a first world problem though. The vote from our room was lovely, my kids enjoyed the pool for a short bit but then didn’t want to shower more than once in that tub, so didn’t get much use out of the pool in the end. Our room was incredibly warm, even after turning the heat off hours before bedtime. That’s when we discovered the air conditioning wasn’t operational (and windows had no screens, so I opted out of leaving the window open). We chose to check out in the middle of the night on our last night and head home early given our inability to sleep comfortably. This motel could use some serious upgrades and a hand in cleanliness in the future. Staff was willing and helpful, but unfortunately we won’t be back to this location. "

"Clean room. Fairly outdated but that’s not a huge issue. Hard beds. The pool area is great but the amount of chlorine made it hard for children to swim without coughing and gagging. Nice staff. A bit strict with rules but that was fine with us as it made it quiet in the halls."
