El Socorro Beach Tours

El Socorro Beach featuring a pebble beach, waves and general coastal views
A popular surfing spot, this dark-sand beach is also the setting for exciting summertime entertainment, including open-air movie screenings.

El Socorro Beach is an idyllic stretch of black-sand beach, nestled in a crescent-shaped bay on the rugged Tenerife coastline. The lapping water and peaceful atmosphere is ideal for families, while the rocky beach break past the reef makes it popular with surfers. Play beach games or surf during the day and watch movies at the outdoor cinema during summer evenings.

The dark sand at El Socorro Beach is typical of the beaches in northern Tenerife, where the volcanic landscape creates a lunar-like terrain. During the peak summer months, visitors and locals flock to the beach to watch movies projected onto large outdoor screens. Wi-Fi is offered in various parts of the beach too, so you can always stay connected.

Spread out a blanket and relax on the sand. Pack your favorite book or simply unwind while listening to the gentle roar of the surf. Take part in some beach games or simply observe. Look for Frisbees being flung and balls bouncing to and fro during racket ball games. You may want to bring along your own ball to kick around on the sands.

Surfers can swim past the reef to catch the breaking waves. If you’ve always wanted to learn how to surf, sign up for lessons with a local instructor. Swimmers should be aware that currents here can be strong. Lifeguards patrol the beach during the peak season.

After a day spent on the beach, freshen up at the restrooms and showers before going for lunch or dinner. Bring a packed lunch and some cool drinks or order food in the nearby bar and restaurant. There are tapas and paella, as well as refreshing beers on the menu.

El Socorro Beach has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag award. The beach is located in Los Realejos and is a 40-minute drive from Santa Cruz. Parking is available. The route to the beach is particularly scenic, passing through banana plantations and haciendas and along a coastal road where mountains roll into the sea.
