"I really loved this resort. I would suggest staying in the palace to be able to go to all the others. The Mayan Mall was really fun for the whole family between bowling, arcade, ice skating, etc. The staff was extremely friendly, my kids and I all had a wonderful time."

"The staff were very friendly. The iced lattes were great. Service was exceptional! Food was also very good. I would have liked to see more chairs and umbrellas for the pool and beach areas. Do not book transportation with the hotel, as it’ll cost you almost double the price. I found some local taxis that were much cheaper. For example, the hotel quoted me $105 USD for a one way trip to Tulum, but I found a gentlemen via Google and texted him through WhatsApp and paid $60 USD. That said, staff were very helpful with finding transportation. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and I am sad to leave. "

"The pool was good just no available lounge chairs at the pool because people would “reserve” them 5am-6am but wouldn’t use them until late morning. "

"If you have any food allergies avoid this hotel chain. They have a food legend for each item. It has the food name and it’s supposed to contain the allergens in the food. The problem is that the allergy legend isn’t consistent. Half the time it says nothing only the item like “broccoli” and then you find out later that it does contain the allergen. As someone who is gluten free, after day 3 and finding out that the legend is not used properly, I was required to ask for chef assistance every time I went to the buffet and they would tell me what didn’t contain gluten. Somehow it wasn’t until the last night that they told me the salad dressings contained wheat. They add flour to all sorts of things that is completely unnecessary like mashed potatoes, corn tortillas, Mexican rice, potato wedges and so on. They even told me they steam the broccoli in old pasta water. The room was clean but quite dated. Our first room smelt so badly of mildew that we had to change rooms. The margaritas tasted like weird chemicals and there is only one elevator to service an entire half of the hotel so if you’re on the opposite end you either take 4 flights of stairs every time you want to go to your room or you walk all the way to the lobby to catch the elevator. The main buffet is tile and large grout lines and they push the plate cart around every 5 minutes which reverberates in the entire restaurant and you’re not allowed to eat outside. "

"Catalonia Riviera Maya can be a good option if you’re visiting Quintana Roo on a budget, but there are a few things to keep in mind before booking. First, there isn’t a traditional beach—just a small bay where you can swim. It’s still enjoyable, but it may not meet expectations if you’re looking for long sandy stretches. Restaurant reservations are quite limited. For example, during our 9-night stay, we were only able to book 4 dinners. You can try going to the restaurants around 6 PM to check for last-minute availability (often around 9 PM), but it’s not guaranteed. Also, meals are restricted to one appetizer, one main course, and one dessert per person. Rooms are decent if you book a deluxe option, though they could definitely use some renovations. The resort grounds are well-maintained, and most of the staff are friendly, though we did encounter a few less welcoming interactions. Food overall is average—definitely edible, but not a highlight of the stay. On the positive side, the spa and gym facilities are excellent. The Italian restaurant stood out with great service, especially from Alejandra and Lucas. Overall: A decent budget-friendly resort with some trade-offs, especially in dining and beach quality."

"Chez Waffle has a pretty back lounge area with view of the water and fish swimming into the inlet. The condition of the rooms is a bit dated. The prices of food on the high side. It is extremely quiet in this gated community. If you want lots to do, you are isolated. I did diviving and day trips every day, so spend little time at the hotel (only evenings). The local busses that run between Playa an d Tulum are excellent. Very cheap! Overall, enjoyed my stay and would do this again. I recommend it."
