Our host at Au Fer à Cheval was Romain, a friendly and helpful man. He owns about 20 English thoroughbred race horses, as well as breeds them. His farm is in a beautiful location with lovely views. It was unfortunately cold and wet for the two nights that we were there, so we couldn't use the pool, and the roads were too slippery for him to take us out in his horse-drawn carriage, but we did see two of his retired racing mares with their foals. Our room was comfortable and clean, good shower, and a small kitchenette. It's a good idea to take your own tea, coffee and milk with you. Continental breakfast was good and delivered to our room at the time we requested. A good guide book in English of what to do in the area was left in our room, but perhaps the only disadvantage of the place is that it is quite isolated and a long way from any any restaurants. Overall, a lovely place, and we'd recommended it.

Poor experience

We had arrived by bike after a 70 km ride and we found the gate closed. The time was 4pm, as indicated on the booking for check-in, but the owner told us to come one hour late because he was not home. The room was dirty, and the fourth bed fell apart in the middle of the night and was not suitable for an adult person. Breakfast had counted items and at the request to have one extra croissant the answer was "no". The place does not offer any beverages for purchase. You have to drink tap water or go to a restaurant which is 10 km away. The swimming pool area and patio are partially under construction, they can be used but cables stick out in several places.

Un week end parfait

Très bon accueil, hôte chaleureux et qui donnent de bons conseils pour visiter le coin. Le cadre est magnifique avec les chevaux, la vue et le gîte est cosy. Le petit déjeuner est copieux et ouvre l'appétit même si on a pas l'habitude de manger le matin et servi jusque 11 heures. Endroit très calme, on entend pas les autres visiteurs. Un bonus pour la déco de la chambre. Nous reviendrons avec plaisir.

Mon séjour était malheureusement très court mais j’ai énormément apprécié mon temps ici. L’endroit n’étais pas trop loin de la route principale tout en restant intime et calme. Les terrains étaient très beau. La chambre était spacieuse et propre, avec tout ce dont j’avais besoin après une longue journée. J’ai adorer recevoir mon déjeuner au lit le lendemain, une belle attention y fût donner. Bref, je recommande fortement cette établissement!

Le propriétaire est très sympathique et courtois. Il met ses clients à l'aise. La chambre spacieuse, la kitchenette et la salle de bains très propres et agréablement aménagées. Petit déjeuner varié et copieux. Seuls petits regrets : difficulté de chauffer la salle de bains car thermostat connecté (en le prévenant , le lendemain, l'hôte nous a fait remarquer que nous aurions dû l'appeler) et indispensable de prévoir une rampe à l'escalier. Cela n'enlève rien au charme de l'ensemble et nous avons été réjouis de notre séjour.

The room was spacious and generally ok but it was very cold. There was only one small heater in a large room with a kitchenette. The kitchen was ok, very basic and not so comfortable to cook. The owners were friendly when I checked in, they left the property after my check in. They didn’t respond to my phone calls when I tried to contact them about extra heating and Wi-Fi. There is absolutely no Wi-Fi at the property. Overall my stay was very uncomfortable as it was too cold, no Wi-Fi and no response from the owner but this place is in a very nice location, quiet and a lot of beautiful nature.
