"Staying temple was really unique experience. Renovation was done really nicely; traditional rooms were kept in good confition, and modern bathroom and laundry unit etc was installed. Very stykish yet blending well with original units. Quality of amenity was really nice too."

"We had a truly unique experience in this Ryokan: wonderful people who welcomed us like family, delicious meals - best we've had in Japan, marvellous room and baths, and the attention to detail - they brought a present to my partner because it was her birthday a few days earlier. Thank you very much to the family at Ryokan Kutsuroginoya Yuu who made this a very special stay. "

"Staff, when there, are delightful.
Walkable distance from train station.
Bathroom (shared) open from 5 - 10 pm only. Very cold water to shower and clean yourself with before you soak in a prerun hot bath.
Found a man pleasuring himself in the women's bath one afternoon. Did not use bath thereafter for obvious reasons. Had to pay 100 yem per small towel per day! Seven days = 700 yen for a towel which was never changed. Bedding stained. exhaust fumes from neighbours aircon blow into bedroom...

"We had to walk through narrow winding steps to the room. If you have a large suitcase, you may have hard time. I expected a local Japanese family to welcome us because I was going to aske some advice and suggestions but it was a Chinese famly. So I did not ask them. Another thing we were not happy about was this Chinese lady asked my husband passport. She made a copy of it. Not only that I had to write my information on the paper and signed it. We made a reservation through hotels.com so we...

"Me and my friend stayed here for one night. The host was very friendly and helpful. The place was well kept and everything was very clean and tidy. We very much enjoyed our short stay here and would recommend this to other travellers looking for a good authentic accommodation without the price tag. "

"Don't expect luxury - it's a basic Japanese guesthouse with shared bathrooms. Food was fantastic, trying the dinner a must! Shared bathrooms and toilets. Rooms essentially have paper walls... Hot spring baths ok, not more."

"Staff was spectacular, I'm so sorry they have to deal with less than delightful guests on what seems like a regular basis. We greatly appreciate you and enjoyed our gift of champagne.
Area is very walkable, bed is on the softer side of Japans hotel beds. Our room was big enough and it was one of the smaller ones. There is a smoking room by the elevator that opens frequently so there is some cigarette smell when you go to the lobby. I do wish there was some food options though, Takayama restaurants close pretty early in the vicinity and it would be stellar if there was more available at the hotel. Breakfast options were great, maybe add a dinner too?"
"One of the best experiences I’ve ever had at a hotel. The staff is so nice and helpful and the rooms are great.
Would recommend to anyone looking to stay in Takayama!"
"A very beautiful hotel, just a few minutes from the station. You can reserve the private onsen, which opens to the outside. Very relaxing. The only surprise was the mediocre wifi bandwidth (9 Mbs) even if you join their accor something-or-other. Highly recommended"
"Our stay was a great experience. I was able to relax and decompress despite my very short 16h stay thanks to the private and public open air baths, snacks, yukata, and attentive and welcoming staff.
We initially were not sure how to get to the property from the Shirakawa Go bus terminal and had started a 30-minutr walk. But!--before we got to far, we spotted a shuttle with the Onyado Yui no Sho sign. We luckily were able to board the shuttle.
We opted for the dinner and breakfast reservations and it definitely was a highlight of the experience-- traditional and fresh foods served as 3(?) courses, presented in beautiful dining pieces. Our sever was very friendly and accommodating, and even sought feedback on his English! (He shared with us that he has studied and plans to continue studying abroad, and his English will only improve!) I am very awe-inspired by the staff's dedication to hospitality.
Our room was beautiful, clean, and spacious! Beds were comfortable. I will plan to return to Onyado Yui no Sho in the near future for much needed self-care and healing."
