Last week I was staying in Porvoo with new friends. Had the most wonderful time there, experiencing new things and seeing Finland with new eyes.

When I grew up I had Finland on my doorstep. Well, almost. It was about 17 km to the border. The border in this case was Muonio River, which separated Karesuando in Sweden and Karesuvanto in Finland.

I've been in Finland so many times I can't even count them. I've crossed that border so many times, sometimes just to visit the Finnish supermarket.

But this time was different. It felt like I was seeing Finland's beauty for the first time. Sure, skiing in Ylläs is pretty amazing and always have been. And visiting Santa Clause in Rovaniemi was pretty cool too! But I think I was too young to really appreciate it.

But I do now. And I can't wait to visit Finland again. I'm already planning my next trip to Sweden's neighbouring country. I'll keep my plans to myself for a while longer, but I hope to be able to share it with you soon.

"Kaunis paikka aivan meren rannalla, ihastuimme! Lasitettu terassi lämpeni hyvin talvipakkasilla. Annoin täydet tähdet, pienet miinukset voisi antaa minipienestä keittiöstä (kokoon nähden hyvin varusteltu kuitenkin) ja ihmettelimme laudeliinakäytäntöä, tästä voisi laittaa ohjeisiin jonkun tarkennuksen (Olimme omilla pyyhkeillä ja lakanoilla, mökin puolesta laudeliinoiksi oli tarjolla vain kankaisia ja ihmettelimme saammeko niitä käyttää vai emme. "My second stay here. I must say how much I enjoyed it. The staff were exceptional and again I was given a lovely room. For someone that really struggles to sleep, having a 24 hour gym as well as a breakfast services that starts at 4am, really helps the hours go by. I also enjoyed an exceptional dinner and cocktails in Nor on my second night. The service was impeccable. I will be back. "

"The whole place was clean and modern. It’s very much a self service kind of hotel where you can check in and out with yourself. Great location also since the train is next to the building which is accessible to the whole city center in immediate minutes. Overall great hotel especially for someone new visiting in Helsinki.
