service is amazing. one time both our room entrance cards didn t work and an employee was around the corner to take them to the front desk for us and then brought back the cards to our room after. we feel very safe in the hotel. one time it was raining and we passed by an employee outside who offered his umbrella to us.
Beautiful area and service. Breakfast very Chinese and finishes at 9.30am. Our bed was comfortable but we had an extra bed for our daughter which unfortunately was as hard as a rock. We stayed during Golden week, October 1st, tourism was crazy busy so couldn't do anything due to crowds of thousands..avoid traveling during national holidays. Sought out higher end restaurants to escape the crowds. Hotel was an island of sanity.
From the moment our taxi arrived at the front door, we were cordially greeted with the most professional gestures. We were given a bow each time we passed. On the first night, the hotel staff lent us their municipal passes so we could rent the public bicycles (two of them) and ride around West Lake. The sunset was perfect and the hour long ride was very pleasant. The following morning, we were given complementary tickets to ride on their private ship for an hour on West Lake. It was very convenient to go straight from their breakfast dining area to the back of the hotel facing the lake to get onto the ship. We needed train tickets from Hangzhou to Suzhou and the staff personally bought the tickets for us online while we reimbursed her. She made sure we got our tickets to the right station, arriving at the right station, and even wrote the instruction on how to arrive at our hotel in Suzhou. And of course, they helped us call a taxi. Of the five hotels we stayed at in China, this was by far the best service we received. I think it had a lot to do with the fact that they are preparing for the G-20 conference coming up in September. The government has given firm instructions to all hotels on how to treat foreign guests and dignitaries.
Bill Clinton and Mao Zedong may have stayed at this hotel, but they were undoubtedly given better rooms. Our tiny bedroom had reasonably comfortable twin beds, but hard wooden chairs without available legroom and a tiny bathroom with the smell of sewage and a shower that was accessed by crawling in next to the toilet and had a drain that was clogged when we arrived. The absolute low point of the room was the dirtiest carpet we've ever experienced in a hotel. The lake view was a tiny sliver "enjoyed" between buildings by craning over the edge of the room's small balcony.
This is an old-style Chinese hotel, but of the luxurious kind where only officials could stay in the past. Now it is open to the rest of us! It's not updated and modern, but very well-maintained and clean. The best part is the service. I have never experienced this level of service. Truly. The staff was friendly, helpful, and always available--in Chinese, at least. This is a great spot for a Chinese speaker. Another bonus was a free boat ride around the lake.
Our family had a wonderful 4 night stay at Da Hua. The location just cannot be beat - really, if you're going to Hang Zhou stay on the lake. We loved Da Hua. Yes, it's an older hotel, and it's got a great staff, phenomenal breakfast, and stunning views. The boat ride and grounds are awesome too! We will always choose Da Hua.
We stayed only one night. It was great to wake up next to West Lake. The breakfast was great with a view to the lake. The staff was very helpful & organized a bus ticket for me.
Very convenient location, just next to the Lake. All major dining and shopping areas are within walking distance, yet the environment of the hotel is still very quiet. Particularly the security arrangement is outstanding so that non-residents cannot access to the public area of the hotel. Out of expectation, there is a free cruise offerred to every customer on checkin.
Great location . Staff are generally service oriented.
Minus points :
1. Internet service intermittent and generally below standard for a hotel of this standard
2. The TV channels work poorly as it's very hard to operate. Also no English business channels.
