“Nice comfortable hotel an easy walking distance from everything in Colchester. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was good quality. I liked the fact that breakfast is 'a la carte', as that reduces wastage. Cleanliness is good and the staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend!”

“Have seen this hotel come up a few times and thought i would try it when i was working in the area. Being a golf club it has lots of extras, gym, spa, pool etc. The gym was well equipped with the latest tech, the pool area was lovely with a jacuzzi ,steam and sauna room. Clean changing rooms with ample lockers. The room was spacious with one of the largest beds ive seen, decent amenities, tea,coffee n biscuits. Great bathroom and shower. The restaurant was nice, the food was decent with plenty...

“Nice old pub with hotel accommodation. Used for the nearby Houchins Wedding Venue. Bedroom comfortable. Shower a squeeze if you are taller than 6ft, but the trade off is the heritage of the building. Easy parking at rear.”

“The check in and staff were amazing. They offered a welcome pack of a bottle of water and chocolate bar and breakfast bar. This wasn’t expected and due to the heat it was very welcome. We stayed as we had travelled for an Ed Sheeran concert and they had all the info of the show available and just went above and beyond ensuring the stay was pleasant and made a bond with their guests. I would thoroughly recommend staying and Kate (manager) was exceptional and so welcoming. ”

“Comfortable room and excellent supper in the restaurant. There were 2 of us with bikes and very kindly were allowed to store them overnight in the hotel. Excellent stopover if completing the Wolf Way bike trail. ”

“This hotel has all the character and history of a large old traditional hotel, but with a programme of constant upgrades. So the ensuite bathroom was magnificent. The bar, lounge, library and dining room had great luxurious character and we loved the outside palm tree area for drinking and relaxing ”
