The property is stunning, the staff are incredibly warm and kind, and the food was exceptional. I got a room with a balcony over the fish pond and a private bath and I enjoyed every second of my stay. I will absolutely come back the next time I am in Japan. The trip from Tokyo was about an hour by train, and the Onsen has shuttle that will pick you up and drop you off when you leave"

The bathroom door does lock so you do have privacy. The innkeeper and family live on site and are very welcoming and friendly. We were allowed to leave our luggage for a short time after check out. They were also helpful witj specific restaurant recommendations. If you want a genuine Japanese ryokan"
