Hotel Wellies is an eclectic hotel located quite a way out of the town centre and is difficult to get to. The staff were very helpful, rooms are clean. There was no dinner option the night we stayed and limited options close by. The hotel is modelled on an English hotel with English cooked breakfast - good coffee.
It s a pleasant trip to Kanuizawa.and hotel Wellies is must, serenity surrounding, welcoming atmosphere, nice staff (Isuzu),and good breakfast and dinner.
I would like to visit Kanuizawa and the Wellies again.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Nice enough. Clean, friendly staff. Location is a bit out of the way, but nice and quiet. We were not a fan of the bathroom split in the room (toilet from one door in the room, Sink/shower from a different part of the room - made it difficult in the middle of the night). Britishness should be taken with a pinch of salt (was British owned, now Chinese-owned). We were unable to try the breakfast due to an early start; the welcome scone & tea was a nice gesture, but not executed well - was a penny-size burnt bullet and came with half a cup of less than weak tea (at least, it made us smile).
Wonderful hotel with a delightful owner and manager. Warm and cozy bar-restaurant with great full-course meals, a nice deck to soak in the sun, and walkable (20 min) to the terrace and forest reserve. Beautiful location in autumn.
This hotel is a hidden gem with helpful and friendly staff.
Feels like a b&b with cooked breakfast, games area for adults and kids.
The staff went above and beyond - helping us with transport to our next destination, making calls (in Japanese) and driving us to our shuttle connection.
Rooms were comfortable and warm.
It’s about 10mins from the town centre but they do offer pick up and drop offs from the train, and it makes it quiet and peaceful.
Highly recommend!
Chris is a very friendly and funny guy. Great atmosphere and giving a great welcome feeling. Full of stories and jokes!
Good homey British food - dinner and breakfast. His home smoked salmon got full marks!
Huge room, very clean and quiet.
Highly recommended for Japanese and gaijin travellers.
The hotel/guesthouse is quite some distance from the central parts of Karuizawa. You would definitely need a car if staying here. Whilst newly renovated, the property feels like a poorly designed mixture of English and Japanese concepts that don’t really work well together. I’m confident there are better value for money options in Karuizawa.
