Die Anfänge der Burg gehen auf ein Anlage aus dem 12. Jahrhundert zurück. Da wurde ein Wohn und Wehrturm von etwa 8,5 m x 14 m errichtet. Erbaut wurde es von den Edelherren Otto und Gerlachus von Lynn. Diese Anlage wurde da erbaut, wo vorher sich ein ehemaligen Motte mit Wassergraben und Palisadenzaun befunden hatte. Danach wurde Burg kontinuierlich ausgebaut. Im Jahre 1188 verkaufte Otto von Linn das Erbgut an den Erzbischof von Heinsberg, behielt die Burg aber als Lehen. Zwischen 1195 und 1250 wurde die Anlage immer weiter zur wehrhaften Anlage ausgebaut. Unter Heinrich von Strünkede, Amtmann der Mechthild von Kleve begann das Raubrittertum in Linn und endete erst, als die Burg von kurkölnischen Truppen gestürmt wurde. Seit 1924 gehört die gesamte Anlage der Stadt Krefeld. Nach dem 2. Weltkrieg wurde die Burg restauriert und konserviert. Die noch heute erhaltene Teile der Burg, stammen aus dem 13. Jahrhundert. Ein Besuch der Burg, des Ortes Linn und des Museums ist ein wirklich zu empfehlender Wochenendausflug. Johannes Heribert Pohl.
