  • One church you should not miss is the elegant 1363 Armenian Cathedral with its ancient-feeling interior. The placid cathedral courtyard is a maze of arched passageways and squat buildings festooned with intricate Caucasian detail. Stepping into the courtyard feels like entering another era – gravestones bearing inscriptions in the 54 letters of the Armenian alphabet pave the floor. Located in the city's Old Town, north of the market square. Until 1945 it was the cathedral of the Armenian Catholic Archdiocese of Lviv, since 2000 it serves as a cathedral of the Eparchy of Ukraine of the Armenian Apostolic Church

  • Lovely view of old Lviv from the top of the tower in the center of Ploscha Rynok. That's the Latin Cathedral, one of the oldest still-active churches in the city. To climb the tower, go up the first four flights of stairs to the ticket desk. The way is clearly marked with signs in multiple languages, including English. At the desk, pay 10 hrivna and then keep climbing up, up, and up until you reach the open deck at the top of the tower. Then enjoy the view!

  • Located on St. George Hill, over-looking the city of Lviv, the church was the perfect target for destruction in the past. At least two versions of the St. George Cathedral were built before the final construction of the church as it is seen today. The Cathedral of St. George became the mother congregation of the Greek-Catholic religion in Ukraine. The St. George Cathedral in Lviv, is home to one of the most treasured relics, which was brought to the cathedral by Bishop Jiseph Shumlianskyi in 1674. It is the Icon of the Virgin Mary, and is a spectacular and preserved artifact. The interior was decorated with luxurious embellishments created by the local artistic talents of Lviv. Pinsel, the sculptor of the cathedral, created the spectacular St. George (known as the Dragon Slayer) statue. The St. George statue can be viewed in the attic of the cathedral, while the intimidating statues of St. Athanasius and St. Leo protect the portal. Renovations to the St. George Cathedral took place in the 1996, restoring the original beauty of the cathedral. Tourists, visiting this amazing historical masterpiece will not be disappointed. Over and above the cathedral, visitors can also visit the belfry, walk through the peaceful gardens or enter the final resting place of many important figures of the past in the tombs below the cathedral.

Great hotel with wonderful staff!

The hotel was wonderful! The staff was even MORE fabulous! I was there on Oct 10 during the missile strikes. Although their city, friends, family and themselves were in danger, the staff was calm, helpful and Ukrainian-Strong. My thoughts, actions, heart and soul are with the Ukrainian people! Beautiful old property, very tastefully and appropriately refurbished. The lobby and stairs are lovely. Room was small but nicely furnished. Great shower. Very quiet bathroom extraction fan. Interesting toilet with a selection of washes ! Staff were without exception friendly, helpful and polite. All requests were handled efficiently and with grace and good manners. Lviv is a beautiful , safe city and lovely even in November. We really enjoyed our stay.

Jeg havde nogle få dage i Lviv og havde tidligere boet på hotellet. Faktisk 4 gange før. Det var også derfor jeg valgte hotellet denne gang, da jeg ville være sikker på og få nogle gode dage. I løbet af dagene valgte jeg også, at drikke kaffe med kage til om eftermiddagen. Det er altid godt. Jeg har altid morgenmad med fordi jeg ved hvad jeg får og det er godt. Betjeningen er utrolig venlig og sød.

Astoria hotel is located within walking distance of everything you want to see in Lviv. It has clean, modern rooms, a good breakfast, and excellent service. In particular, the staffer at the front desk (Yuriy) was extremely helpful and willing to assist with all of our questions.
