Lovely outdoor space , spacious room although not happy with the lack of cleaning of the room even after reporting the problem twice. Nice gesture from the public relations Manuela on our 3rd and last night at the hotel. Much appreciated. The communication among members of staff and specially the management should improved.

Great location, lots off restaurants near by. The buffet breakfast was delicious and had lots of options. Easy walk to downtown Funchal along the pier. The staff were so kind and helpful. Rooms were cleaned everyday. Free parking available but is quite tight and first come first serve. There is paid parking available.

The location of the Pestana Carlton is ideal. It is an easy walk to the old town and toward the Lido hotel zone. There are great restaurants and shopping close by. The downside is that the hotel is so large that there is no personal touch. Most of the staff were pleasant but didn’t go over and above to make you feel welcome. The rooms were adequate but could use updating. The balcony has beautiful views of the harbor and ocean.

Sehr sehr schönes Hotel in Funchal! Alles sehr schön und sauber, sehr freundliches Personal! An der Strasse deshalb nicht immer so ruhig, aber superschöne Aussicht und überhaupt keine spiessige 5 Stern Stimmung. Überaus tolles und leckeres Frühstücksbuffet, noch nie so etwas gesehen! Best and most relaxing stay in beautiful Funchal
I stayed here while on a trip with a friend celebrating both our birthdays and we had an amazing stay! The room was perfect, and both outdoor and indoor pools were very relaxing uma amazing views! The breakfast had a great variety of food and freshly cooked food. What made the big difference in our stay was definitely the staff, all very kind and helpful with everything we may have needed. We could not go without leaving a special thank you to Manuela in reception for her kindness throughout our stay ☺️

The sign above the entrance has 5 stars, which must either reflect that the hotel was opened in 1972 or bribes paid to the star raters. The hotel could be 5-star only after the rooms are renovated, and the pool area, spa and gym are substantially upgraded. There are many 3-star hotels with comparable or even superior restaurants.

It was ok - wouldn’t stay again
The location was great and the receptionists were very helpful. However, i would say this hotel has become run down with main furniture items being cleaned but furniture that isn’t really seen (side table for example) are filled with dust. The other workers (at the pub, bars and restaurant) were not friendly - looking annoyed when asked for a menu… the beds are not comfortable at all!! We were not able to have a full nights sleep as the bed was hard as a rock and the A/C made so much noise and did not cool down the room at all. The pool was also freezing and filled with debris and bugs. However, the pool at the very bottom was clean I’ll give it that. Overall, not very impressed and wouldn’t stay here again.

Det var 5:e gången vi var till Funchal och varje gång har vi bott på Pestana Carlton, kan varmt rekommendera hotellet som byggdes 1972 så färger od. är kanske inte det modernaste, men all personal är supertrevlig. Bra att ha i åtanke är stt ibland går det vare sig att landa eller lyfta på flygplatsen, i år provade man i en timme att landa för att sen återvända tilL issabon men TAP ordnade snabbt hotellrum o mat samt en tid till morgonens första flyg, så vi missade en dag i Funchal

Hotellet virket slidt, og møblerne i morgenmadsrestaurant var plettede og grænsende til det uækre. Morgenmadsbuffetten var baseret på mange mennesker, hvilket også afspejledes i kvaliteten. F eks var bacon ikke færdigstegt. Personalet var alle steder venligt og hjælpsomt. Parkeringsforhold var under mangelfulde, og man undlod, at oplyse om at der 100 meter fra hotellet lå en konkurrende p-kælder, der endda var billigere. Så pris og kvalitet hænger ikke sammen, og vi vender ikke tilbage.

Nice area walkable to city centre. This is 3.5 star property not 5 star property. The building is 50 years old. The towels were ripped and in very bad condition. Pool towels very small and in poor condition. Long waiting time to get in the breakfast restaurant. The staff did not speak Portuguese and hard to understand.

We had a family room at the front of the hotel which was a great size. Breakfasts were good. WIFI is not great in the rooms or around the hotel. But overall very nice.
