This contemporary art gallery showcases works that push the boundaries and raises questions about society.

Modern Art Oxford is an acclaimed gallery for contemporary works from around the world. It is known for its intriguing and affecting exhibits that tend to linger in the mind long after visiting. Browse the diverse collections to see postmodern creations and halls dedicated entirely to individual ideas.

The gallery was founded in 1966, when it was known as the Museum of Modern Art, Oxford. Over the decades, it has become renowned for the quality of its exhibits. Many influential artists, such as Yoko Ono, Andy Warhol and Tracey Emin, have showcased in this important gallery.

Look at the subversive exhibits by controversial figures. They are often centered on taboo subjects and passionate themes, such as sexual assault, anger and lack of individuality. Most of these exhibits are temporary, lasting for a couple of months.

Take a break from the art at the café and bar, where you can order from an eclectic menu that features roast salmon fillet, homemade soup and frittatas. Ask staff for an children’s activity pack to keep the kids entertained while you dine.

Visit the gift shop to pick up souvenirs. There are mugs, stationery and all sorts of items relating to modern art.

The museum is funded by the Arts Council England and it is free to enter. Check to see if there are any free events, activities or workshops being held during your visit. The gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday from late morning until early evening.

Modern Art Oxford is tucked into a little side street in the center of Oxford. It is easy to access the gallery on foot from most places in the center. Pembroke College is the nearest part of the university to the site. The Museum of Oxford and the Oxford Town Hall are also nearby.
