"We needed somewhere to spend the night somewhere near Galax to break up our trip between Knoxville and Northern Virginia. We weren't familiar with the area but the Washington Inn in Fries, VA worked out great. Richard was friendly and helpful both prior to and during our stay. It's less than 30 minutes to Galax and located adjacent to the New River and Trail with a view of the dam. We stayed in the Fisherman's Den room which is the only room on the main level near the common areas, which could get noisy at times. The room isn't huge but we weren't in it very much. The queen bed was comfortable. There is a community kitchen with several refrigerator/freezers, a microwave, coffee maker, Keurig, stovetop (I think) and more. We had dinner in Galax but had a drink at the Steakhouse just up the street. The Washington Inn appeared to be a much better option than anything we saw in Galax. We are planning to come back to do some biking on the NRT and would definitely stay here again."

"The free breakfast they had for guests starting at like 6 in the morning was fabulous! My girlfriend was quite thrilled about the waffle station, which she managed to use w/ little to no mess! Also the fresh lemon-infused water & cucumber-infused water provided at all times was a big hit! The staff were positively fabulous: very friendly, kind, & personable! Although the facility was undergoing renovation at the time, which limited available parking, the staff were quite willing to allow us to park outside of designated areas, providing easy loading & unloading of our rather-too-extensive accoutrements. Conveniently located to Galax, Independence, Foster Falls, and other areas of interest & local beauty!"

"Elevator was out of service. I felt so bad for all the Seniors that had to carry their luggage up three flights of stairs. Back Door was inaccessible with room card. The breakfast was absolutely delicious. One of the best that I've had. Parking after 8:00 pm was very challenging. Desk staff was very polite and courteous."

"Pros: The property was easy to get to with ample parting. We had a King room and the in-room amenities were nice; plenty of seating and a comfortable bed. The price was average for what we got. There is a good southern type restaurant across the street. Cons: We are senior citizens, 70years plus. Our room was on the second floor and there was no elevator; we had to lug our baggage up the stairs. Although the bed was comfortable, the pillows were a bit on the stiff side; good for some folk but I could not get used to them during our one night stay. The bathroom was clean but small. You had to walk in and turn out of the way to close the door. The shower tub was a little scary stepping out of it. It was somewhat a big drop from the tub to the floor. Grab bars are definitely needed. I am surprised that is not a requirement. The continental breakfast was just that, very 'continental'. We would stay there again if we could get a room on the first floor and the shower had grab bars. Even my wife was nervous stepping out of the tub. For young people, these cons would probable not be an issue."

"My only regret is that we were passing through for one night. Wish we could have stayed longer! Outstanding amenities, staffing, and look/feel, right down to the signature scent. Such a cool use of an old, industrial building. A very peaceful atmosphere. The coffee/tea for each floor was a great touch. We will be back!"
