Shisuitei is a traditional Japanese-style hotel with onsen and sauna facilities.

Technically in the middle of nowhere, it was the perfect hotel to relax and slowdown after a day of snowboarding.

The dinner and breakfast, set in a private room was delicious! And the nakai (hotel staff) were very friendly and helpful. I'd love to come back here in the summer.

We went by car but they also provide a free pick-up service to and from both Numata Station on the JR Joetsu Line and Jomo-kogen Station on the JR Joetsu Shinkansen Line.

"I loved our huge room with private balcony onsen and the Japanese design of the room. Very friendly staff. Breakfast and dinner were really good and for us more than sufficient in quantity. They have a rotating set of 3 different dinners, so day 4 = day 1, but for us that was fine. Bed was a bit on the hard side but I got used to it."

The free shuttle service to the ski resort was also extremely useful as they would drive you to your desired resort and pick you up at your specified time. "It was a great experience staying in a traditional ryokan, visit an onsen (public bath) and use a yukata (Japanese robe). Lovely staff, great location and spacious and clean room. A futon mattress would have made the experience even better, but the down duvet was wonderful."

"I think very few gaijin go this far out. Some of the communication was difficult but the staff tried really hard and we enjoyed the stay Hard to navigate getting to and from major stations and it snowed one day at end of March Overall I’m glad we did it for the experience to be immersed in Japanese culture.
