"The shower was dirty with no conditioner or shampoo. The room smelled like smoke, it was loud and too expensive for the quality of the room . The beds were comfy but the upstairs room was loud."

"Room was clean. Toilet bowl cover had to be moved in order to flush. There were abandoned cars and homeless people living in the parking lot. I had to leave my ID in exchange to use the iron and board - and I had to go get it and walk it back… super weird. The lobby was closed to guests, so just a walk up window from the parking lot. If staff is scared, makes me feel unsafe. The AC unit in the room was damaged, and the heater didn’t work - I was freezing. The phone was ripped out of the wall, so...

"I was put in room 220 on the end. It was quiter than a lot of their rooms but keep in mind freeway road noise is constant. But its easy to get a good night's sleep. This room didn't get neighbors smoking and talking outside my room door. Other rooms get that issue."

"Bathroom was moldy and shower and tub were filthy with black scum in crevices. Hair on the floor indicated that it wasn’t swept after the last guest. Otherwise it was basic and gave what I needed which was a cheap roof, bed, shower. The front office person was accommodating."

"Cons: Smells like cigarettes inside the room, lots of burn holes in blankets, roaches in restroom, microwave was half burnt light bulbs were out in restroom and in main room lamp. Key card did not work until maintenance had to replace batteries in the door unit which took a whole day. Had to get something from the room and while the key card did not work since maintenance hadn’t come yet, I went to front desk and no one was there to let me in. I waited for 30 minutes.
Pros: Fridge worked well,...

"This was my absolute worst hotels.com experience hands down. The room was so dirty that I tried to cancel my reservation, a first ever. And I’ve stayed in some funky places but this takes the cake. The furniture had crusty stains like 3-D stains, the remote control was covered in some kind of sticky goo, sheets stained, burn holes in the blanket, bathroom was a nightmare. Had to wake up at 4am to catch a flight. There was a prostitute coming in and out of an open room, homeless guy (very nice...

La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Oakland - Hayward
2/10 Terrible
"Please do not stay here.
Not only is the management terrible, but the rooms are filthy, musty, and poorly maintained. I even had to switch rooms during my stay.
We originally stayed at the La Quinta in Galt because my daughter, who is a photographer, had events around San Francisco. We decided to move to Oakland thinking it would be closer and more convenient. Looking back, leaving Galt was a huge mistake. The La Quinta in Galt was gorgeous, clean, and had an amazing staff. This location was the complete opposite.
When I checked in, my state ID was expired. I understand policies are policies, but I have never had an issue using it before — I even flew to NYC with it. I asked if they could simply change the reservation to my daughter’s name since she was also staying with me, but the staff refused. The supervisor was rude, dismissive, and completely unhelpful.
At 1 a.m., exhausted and overwhelmed, I ended up on the phone with Hotels.com in tears trying to fix the situation. Having worked for Marriott in my 20s, I was honestly shocked by the lack of customer service and compassion.
After more than an hour, Hotels.com finally spoke with the hotel manager, who agreed to cancel and rebook the reservation under my daughter’s name.
Unfortunately, the problems didn’t stop there. The hotel smelled strongly of smoke, the room was dirty, and the curtains were literally shredded.
Please save yourself the stress and spend your money somewhere else."
"Great stay at the Shattuck. Rooms were clean, staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was perfect for a walk to the Berkeley campus. Great food options near by! We will definitely be back."
Hilton Garden Inn San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge
10/10 Excellent
"I disagree with other reviewers regarding the breakfast. We found it really well stocked and very fresh. Staff was attentive and helpful. The menu included: scrambled eggs, cheese omelette, link and patty sausages, bacon, waffles, home fried potatoes, pastries, English muffins, croissants, hot and cold cereal, hard boiled eggs, watermelon, pineapple, cantaloupe, grapes, coffee, tea, juice, milk and more!"
"The only that I noticed was that the online pictures of the lobby and the rooms were not current. Carpeting throughout was in need of either replacement or a deep cleaning. But other then that the rooms were clean, had plenty of towels and most importantly for me was the shower, toilets, and bathroom floor were very clean as was the bedding."
"LOCATION - 5 Stars - Great, especially if visiting UC Berkeley; next to restaurants and shops and steps away from the University
STAFF - 2 Stars - There were only 2 or 3 young girls at the front desk that we met during our 3 day stay. All of them looked unhappy at their job and seemed a better fit at a Thrift Store.
CLEANLINESS - 3 Stars - much to be desired, specifically in the bathroom. Let's just say I was not about to use the bathtub. Throughout the room and bathroom, it looked like a deep clean was much needed.
RESTAURANT - 4 Stars - Nothing spectacular, my salad was not fresh, but prices were reasonable and the service was fast.
OTHER - 3 Stars - There was a very strong smell in the lobby, which I could not say what it was - candle or something else. While the decor in the lobby was interesting and inviting, it seemed that students and random people could just come in, buy a coffee and sit there using their computers. The room was a good size (we had the corner Campenile view) however, it did not feel clean, there was no pen, not even a single piece of paper to write a note. The Front Desk lobby area did not have any interesting materials on the area, what to do or see and I was not about to ask the front desk ladies, they did not inspire much confidence. There was no concierge either.
Overall good location, but not even a 4 Star hotel."
