โIt was extremely good decision to stay in this hotel for my two-day trip in Zanzibar.
The staff(woman on the front desk) was exyremely welcoming and helpful all throughout my stay. The breakfast was fantastic and the ocean view from the restaurant was apparently the commercial for Tanzania Tourism on CNN. I saw this view all the time on CNN and during my breakfast at this hotel:) Only, beware Stone town is very far from Nungwi beach (1h and 30m away by car) and it is in a maze-like alley which...
โOnly the location was good. The room was dated but not that bad. The most problem at this hotel is staff and service. They alwasys kept lying. At first, they said twice of taxi fare and later they changed the word. Moreover, they promised me to serve breakfast box instead of breakfast buffet because I had to leave earlier. But in the morning they said they have no idea even paid including breakfast. And after I checked thier note about breakfast box, they said the cook has some problem.. excuse...
โRashid and Kelvin were the absolute best hosts! So nice I came back twice. Emerald Palm is the home away from home. Staff are warm and friendly and it's in a great location in Stone Town. Definitely recommend this hotel. โ
"The restaurant is very dismal. They only allow food on the second floor which makes it very restricted on seating etc. Some staff are clearly not interested in serving guests. There's very restricted option on drinks (non-alcoholic). In the breakfast there's no orange juice. Food itself is ok. The lighting in the second floor is really not for a dinner environment. It feels really like a mess-hall for a dinner. They need to open the first floor so people can sit on the patio area on the bar to eat etc. What is up with the restriction? The after drinks can also be served directly from the bar so employees don't have to walk up and down for a glass of wine etc.
Don't miss out on the movie nights on the beach. This was my personal highlight of the stay, and also the room service convenience (albeit no real options of food). The beach itself isn't really nice to swim (the sand is too muddy, but locals had no issues, also they recommend not to walk barefoot on the sand --> theres' some type of spikes around (natural?) the beach area.
Do not stay on Sunday nights here as the neighboring hotel will blast music till 0100 am. The staff even hate this, but the management obviously have given up on this issue. (Wednesdays too)
Try to get a second floor room or a first floor room away from the stairways. You just get more privacy. Swimming in the pool just 1 hour before sunset is the best time. No one around and quiet. There was a lot of breeze during our stay. "
