Explore walkable neighborhoods and picturesque parks in Oregon’s largest city. Be sure to sample its famously delicious coffee and beer.

Portland, in the shadow of Mount Hood, and its surroundings offer the rare opportunity to browse quirky neighborhoods, visit museums and parks, sunbathe on the beach and hike to a volcano, all within a day. Discover why this city along the Columbia and Willamette rivers enchants all visitors.

Explore the very walkable Downtown Portland. Begin in Pioneer Courthouse Square, which hosts hundreds of cultural events throughout the year. Admire the impressive 19th-century façade of Portland City Hall and its art exhibits within. Stop at a brewery or café and taste why Portland is a favorite destination for beer and coffee lovers.

Browse through thousands of works, particularly esteemed Native American exhibits, in the Portland Art Museum. Examine a genuine navy submarine in the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, or OMSI. Take kids to the Portland Children’s Museum, where they can drive an ambulance, conduct experiments and experience hands-on learning. Visit the big cats of Africa, the monkeys of the Amazon and the elephants of Asia in the Oregon Zoo.

Discover why Portland is called the “City of Roses” in the International Rose Test Garden located in Washington Park. The garden is home to more than 500 rose varieties. Meditate in the serene Grotto, a Catholic shrine and botanical gardens. Explore the eight distinct zones of the impeccably landscaped Portland Japanese Garden.

Bike, walk or simply relax in Tom McCall Waterfront Park. The scenic green space in the heart of the city is a favorite refuge for visitors and locals. Delve into life in a bygone era at Pittock Mansion, the sprawling manor house of Portland pioneers Henry and Georgiana Pittock.

Although Portland has plenty to keep you entertained, you’ll find many destinations a short drive outside the city that are also worth a visit. In the city of Beaverton, indulge in a tasting at Cooper Mountain Vineyard, a certified organic winery. North of Portland, see the still-active volcano, Mount St. Helens.
