"Excellent Hotel. Very friendly staff. Very easy access to downtown. Took us 10 minutes to walk to downtown cable car site. If you need any supermarket items, the mall is right downstairs and there is a nice supermarket there also. There is filtered water on every floor in a machine.The breakfast is also excellent. Great coffee machine, selection of fruits and cheeses and breads, as well as numerous hot entrees. Also, very big plus was we rented a car and used the free parking in the downstairs garage. You need to go to the private parking lot, which is next to the mall pkg lot entrance."

"Our stay at the Pestana Carlton Madeira Ocean Resort Hotel was nothing short of exceptional. The hotel’s location is perfect—just a short walk from Funchal’s charming center, yet peaceful and right on the ocean. The views from the rooms and terraces are breathtaking, especially at sunset. We particularly loved the choice of swimming pools: the large sea-water pool with direct access to the ocean was a highlight, while the indoor heated pool provided the perfect retreat in the evenings. Breakfast was outstanding with a wide variety of fresh fruits, pastries, and local specialties. Every meal we had at the hotel was beautifully presented and delicious, with attentive service to match. "Hotel is situated on a shore of the ocean, so through bedroom windows and balcony we saw only ocean, waves and had magnificent view. Food was excellent in the restaurant, staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Room was spotles. Highly recommended to everyone!!!!"
