Friendly cosy B&B. Quaint bar. Great rooms. Good quality continental breakfast buffet.
Just an absolutely wonderful old and historic hotel.
The location was perfect for exploring the harbour and the Naval museums.
Our host was a minefield of interesting and useful information, and couldn’t have been friendlier.
We were there for 4 nights and it was a truly great stay.
Wonderful staff, lovely rooms, and a beautiful property. We stayed in the "China" room. An excellent choice as an upgrade over a "basic" hotel.
The included breakfast was generous and there is a private members-bar on site that we were able to visit in the evening to chat with locals.
What a wonderful property, We were looked after by Ian (the owner) and Alex and felt at home from the minute we arrived. The house is exquisite and the gardens lovely.
Thankfully the weather was good which was an added bonus. Thoroughly recommend this property and will be back very soon.
A very pleasant experience overall
Beautiful artifacts everywhere
Garden was a lovely in the sun
Only disappointment was no offer of hot food for breakfast
One night stay for Victorious Festival, and a great location for Southsea Common and the ferries/hovercraft. Despite it being a packed weekend in the city, the owners sorted parking at the school next door, and provided significant email information in advance of the stay.
Super friendly establishment, completely unique property, a great location surrounded by local history, an excellent breakfast, a well stocked bar, and an incredible hidden garden.
The rooms had everything expected and were decorated in a suitable, if quirky, manner, that certainly made you feel welcome.
Excellent host, cosy and quirky rooms, brilliant location for the centre and Gunwharf Quays, Delicious continental breakfast and free parking. Will stay again when visiting Portsmouth.
Wonderful, unique hotel great value for money and hosted by two lovely and attentive hosts. Highly recommended on all counts. The cosy bar is an cosy, inviting social gathering centre for nearby residents and guests alike and a place to be social and make new friends.
This is a 15th century building which has recently been converted into a hotel, the rooms are exceptionally comfortable and the one I had has a large and modern bathroom. The management and staff are very helpful and there is a nice bar. The hotel is located on the old town high street but this residential and quiet. You have a 20 min walk to the town center or to the ferry terminals. Because it is an old building there is no lift and there are three floors, however the staff will bring the luggage to the room.
This is a very good place to stay in Portsmouth as it has a lot of character which is different to the chain hotels, there is no hotel parking and the only option is to park on the street outside. This hotel has a walled courtyard garden which will be nice in the summer and is a rare find in Portsmouth, the room I had has a minibar fridge and a good TV.
Incredible history, fantastically helpful staff and a great location. Perhaps could consider not using small plastic bottles for their soaps. Also there is a toothbrush holder which has toothpaste at the bottom, but I just don’t use it. Finally door lock is difficult to use as clearly an original.
Other than that, bedding is clean and bed is stunning! Room incredible; I highly recommend.
Absolutely charming stay! This place is a little gem! Stunning old historic building with friendly, helpful & engaging staff.
Loved it and will definitely be back!
Atmosphere was awesome. Ian was so friendly and also helpful. We want to come back and just soak up the comfort and ambiance of Ye Spotted Dogge.
It was close to everything we wanted to do.
We loved our 2 nights at the Ye Spotted Dog. We were treated to a complimentary welcome drink and tour when we arrived which was most appreciated. We loved the Red Room and found it a restful place after a full day out. The bar was our favorite and Alex was a great host!
The hotel was full of historical artifax with a welcoming owner who gave you a full documentary of the hotels past
The hotel was also only a short stroll to the Spinicker tower and all the shops and bars
