"We liked the balcony and the view. The beds were very comfortable and the room was spacious and clean. There was sufficient parking. The staff were helpful and provided some recommendations for dining which were appreciated. We were surprised to learn the restaurant was under renovation but were happy with the other restaurants we found."
"The only negative was the onsite Mexican restaurant associated with the hotel. We were seated then not a single server acknowledged us. Had to go to the bar and oreder a beverage which took 50 mins to come to the table. Servers were standing around the bar on the phones waiting for orders but didn't think to take ours. Very dissapointed in the service. This was at 5:00 pm"
"Bernie is super friendly and helpful. The place itself feels a little run down and in need of renovation. The rooms themselves are better than the rest of the property. Overall, a reasonable place to stay overnight while hopping on to the ferry."
"This is a lovely hotel in a convenient location. The art work around the property is incredible! Having a pub and cafe onsite is a bonus. Don't miss seeing the art gallery that houses fantastic local art."
"The Pioneer Inn is an older property which appears from the outside to have seen better days.
However the friendly new owners are upgrading the interior. Our room was spacious & the beds were lovely. The floors were redone with new flooring , bathrooms vanity. etc.
The restaurant which is run by the hotel owners has delicious Asian food.
I enjoyed the beautifully presented tempura."
"Everything was as expected, this is not some major hotel chain, but a quaint little motel. It’s clean and friendly staff. Steps from the harbor, we could take a walk every night!"
"Thank you so much for an awesome stay. The Inn was close to all the shops and the main St. Tina was so good to us! Thank you for the best fish and chips we ever had, the halibut was amazing! A wonderful birthday, Alert Bay we can't wait to come back and visit!"
"I can't say enough Orca Lodge and it's staff and owners. The best equipped kitchenette we've come across and the ocean front accommodations were awesome. The 75th birthday wishes complete with a saxophone playing happy birthday for my wife was awesome and something she will remember. Thank you Tina and company. We also got a flat tire with the owner putting us in touch with a local islander with a tire fixing unit. A trip saver as the new SUV does not come with a donut tire and no garages on Malcolm Island. Only bad thing was weather raining on our last day there. Will come again."
