The most iconic view of Sapporo is from the observation deck of this 480-foot (150-meter) tower, which looks out over Odori Park.

Sapporo TV Tower stands in the background of many tourist pictures of Sapporo. Some of the most famous pictures of the city can be taken from the tower too. The iron structure, vaguely reminiscent of the Eiffel Tower, offers spectacular views of Odori Park, the skyline of the city and the snow-capped mountains rising in the distance. A landmark of the city since its construction in 1957, Sapporo TV Tower holds a beloved place in locals’ hearts. Bring a camera to take impressive photos.

Approach the tower down the length of Odori Park, which serves as a sort of red carpet leading to the base. Linger on the first few levels, which have an information center, stores and an underground shopping arcade and food court.

Head to the third floor and get in line for the elevator, which can get busy, especially when events such as the Snow Festival are taking place in the park.

At the deck, which stands 300 feet (90 meters) above the ground, look out of the huge plate glass windows onto the city below. Appreciate the aerial view of the activity on Odori Park, an especially beautiful spot to enjoy the elaborate snow sculptures created each year.

Visit the small shrine to TV Dad, which offers protection to the tower and the people who visit it, his face a charming addition to the merchandise and even food offered.

Sapporo TV Tower is in the center of the city, easy to reach from most areas. All of Sapporo’s subway lines stop at nearby Odori station. Walk here in 15 minutes from JR Sapporo Station. Parking can be extremely limited in the area, so take public transportation or taxis. The TV tower observation deck is open to visitors daily from morning to late at night, with variable hours. The shops of the first few levels have varying opening hours.

There is an admission fee to go to the top of the tower. The observation deck can be rented for private events for half an hour at the end of each day.
