The staff were wonderful and so kind and helpful. We got in late after driving from tokyo after a 16 hour flight and we were so happy to walk into the room we had. It was clean, large and comfortable. When we woke up the next morning and opened our curtains we were met with the most gorgeous view of the ocean. The breakfast buffet was huge and had a wide variety of choices. You could enjoy eggs and bacon and pancakes or have a plate of sushi and a bowl of rice. Every breakfast drink you could think of. There was a vending machine on the first floor that had beer and water and juice and laundry facilities as well. Not to mention a spa and onsen. The beach was a short stroll from the back door through a beautiful walkway down the steps. If you find yourself in shimoda this is a wonderful choice for a place to call home.

The breakfast buffet was so good and the view from the garden can't be beat. The hotel is a bit outdated but there were good upgrades like fast wifi, newer toilets, and smart tvs.

Onsen is small but has an amazing sea view. The restaurant is extremely expensive, they have a vegan set menu but also extremely expensive. Massively more expensive than anything else in the area. Some lovely restaurants nearby so best just to skip the hotel restaurant completely.

Positives... / Warm welcome. / Shuttle bus service to/from train station, though the last one to the hotel is at 17:45. / Great setting overlooking the North Pacific Ocean / Philippines Sea. / Large, spacious, room. Twin beds, a table and two chairs, a chaise lounge...and they weren't squeezed in. Negatives... / The style is fairly 'old' (old bathroom etc). Rooms would benefit from a makeover. Busy hotel, not inexpensive (for the price I expected better), so the owners must be making a reasonable margin of which (some) should be used to upgrade the interior. / The sound proofing in the room was poor...could hear the guests in the room next door, in particular through the door connecting the rooms. On the second night the guests in the connecting room were arguing loudly. I asked to change rooms but apparently the hotel was full. There was a framed doorway inside my room (between the main door and bedroom area) which, had there been an actual door there that I could have closed, would have mitigated this noise as the connecting door would have been on the other side of this doorway. Looks as though the door has been removed at some point in the past. / The bathroom doors are not soft close and don't have any noise softening, so they're easily banged. Even from rooms 2+ doors away the bathroom doors being closed can be heard. / Only one small (400ml) bottle of complementary provided each day.

The property is in a beautiful location with lovely views & easy access to beach walks & waterside promenade- ocean view rooms are special - there is nothing of attraction in the town of Shimoda - dilapidated but the surrounding areas within 5-10km distance are beautiful - breakfast is great, the hotel dinners are overpriced & average quality

The hotel sits on a hill, so the views from the rooms are fantastic. There’s even a shortcut to Nabetahama Beach, which makes getting to the sea super easy. The pool is brand new and really impressive. The staff were very friendly, and our kids had an amazing time.
