South Wales, Wales hotel rooms at the Independent

"Paid for a double room. Ended up in a bunk bed tiny basement room. Absolutely awful. I am 6.4 and 19 stone complete joke. Pillows and bedding shocking. Mattress so thin was awake most of the night. Do not book this appalling hotel £150. Absolute disgrace. I arrived later on in the evening tired and ready for a rest and got this."

"Modern, clean hotel with excellent views from the room balcony over the yacht haven. Bar and breakfast were top notch. Best of all were the friendly staff. Highly recommended."

"- Staff were amazing - location was perfect - room was a good size - bathroom was good, shower was a bit small but was manageable. No where to put shower things - random noise went off for about 3 minutes couple times in the night - parking was interesting"

"Lovely reception staff, friendly, helpful, asked questions to then recommend things to me proactively-the people do make the difference & they’re doing it right here! Room was very nice-soft bedding & very comfortable bed, great shower, nice looking bath if I’d been staying longer. A few errant hairs from previous occupants but in good condition & very clean otherwise-I’m not annoyed in any way-hairs do happen on cleaning cloths etc-I had no doubt this room had been very well cleaned. Great for loads of local shops & restaurants & right next to principality stadium-I’ve now got a hotel I will look forward to staying in whenever I’m in Cardiff. "

"We have had some lovely stays at this hotel, however, not so great on this occasion. The room was comfortable and the staff helpful. We had a problem with the air conditioning not working and the concierge did try to get it fixed but was unsuccessful so provided us with a floor standing fan which did resolve the problem. Unfortunately though sleep was extremely difficult as there was a bar/nightclub playing very loud music until around 3am, which was out of the hotels control but did definitely negatively affect our stay. However, we would consider staying again if we could have a room on the other side of the hotel."

"Although the early check in was appreciated, for some reason we were given an adapted room. As it was in a quiet area of the hotel we accepted it. I took a shower after checking in but the shower was blocked and flooded the whole bathroom. At 5pm I was told there were no maintenance staff on duty so we had to move rooms. This room was much noisier, on the main road. Not the best nights sleep"

" had a good two night stay at Tŷ Newport. The hotel was as you would expect from a 4 star hotel. The room was a good size, it had a kettle and the courtesy tray. The bathroom was a spacious with shower only. The noise insulation was very good. The motorway was running very close to the hotel and yet there was no noise. All the people at the reception were very friendly and professional. Also the barman was nice and polite. The only two little suggestions for improvement are: It would be useful to have a mini fridge in the room as well as some hand and body lotion in the bathroom. I liked the green initiative they had: If you did not need to have your towels changed every day, you got a voucher for a free drink at the bar. If I were go back to Newport, I would happily stay at Tŷ Newport again."
