The room was clean but the over all appearance was shabby. No one on reception as we arrived had to phone a mobile number no one answered for 20 min. Had to make a on the spot choice to have breakfast next day or not. Not what you can decide after a 6 hour drive.

The hotel posting on hotels.com days bar and restaurant with breakfast available. Bar shut at 9, and no restaurant or breakfast. I find that incredulous and very misleading. I’ll not be staying there again.

One night only!

We were only there for one night so it is only a brief view. It needs quite a lot of work on it to bring it up to date. I believe it is under new ownership. Food was fine.

One time this would have been a gracious house; sadly now it’s tired. Our room was clean, very basic, but bathroom immaculate in a small space. Very good value as long as expectations not set too high. We’ll use it again for a good bed to sleep in.

Do Not Use This So Called Hotel.

I made the mistake of paying for our stay twice and despite the assurances of Nita who is the owner I am still waiting for my refund a week later. This hotel used to be very good but it is shabby, customer service is non existent and it needs someone to take it over who will invest some money and who knows how to run a hotel. A lot of the detail that needs to be sorted could be done by the owners, but they obviously dont care. When we turned up at reception very tired we were subjected to a diatribe about finger yoga, when all we wanted to do was go to bed. They have absolutely no idea about what customers are looking for !!

This review applies only to the accommodation - not to the dining facilities. Cooking was excellent - 5 stars;accommodation poor-1 star Hence my "neutral" face. On opening the door to our room, the smell of must and damp was overpowering. On inspecting the beds, we found the linen to be clean it but felt extremely damp. My son's words were "This bed is wet". The mattresses were shocking. Every spring could be felt; sleep badly affected. The lighting was barely in existence. A single bulb hung from a central light fitting: it cannot have been more than 20 watts. The single bedside lamp was an 'energy saving' variety and it, too, gave out little light. There was no other lighting. We could not read, we could not write - it was all too dim. The bathroom was exceedingly cold. This was largely because the vent for the extractor fan was in a permanently wide open position so that the gale and the rain blowing outside was coming straight in to the bathroom. The lavatory flush did not work properly: it took four attempts each time to flush the loo. Only one hand towel was provided for the two of us. We did have one larger towel each. There was a decent shaving light above the basin in the bathroom, which was a blessed relief. Had it not been so cold, we could have retired to the bathroom to read! Lying in bed, the curtain frill above my head blew in the wind: there was a considerable draught from somewhere: cold+damp If your income is modest, save your money and stay at home.

Very disappointing, I could tell by the photos of the hotel that this was a dated period Hotel but honestly it is in need of a massive cash injection and refurbishment inside and out. Arrived to find local workers playing pool in the bar area in their Hi Vis safety gear, the Hotel reception staff were pleasant and mentioned that they had live music playing that evening and they asked us if we would like a room in a quieter area of the Hotel. (we accepted this). room was clean but dark, the Black lampshades did not help, Mixture of bath / shower fittings, tarnished brass effect Victorian shower mixer taps with chrome shower lead and white handset, Toilet roll holder useless as internal screw in fitting had come loose making the horizontal bar tilt and the toilet roll kept falling onto the floor. Some of these things are simple maintenance issues, two bedside lights, only 1 working. Only good thing really, was it was 3,1/2 from the Motor museum show I was attending. We did not eat or drink at the Hotel, It was not somewhere we felt comfortable wanted to be. Needs a massive refurbishment.

The staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was clean. When I went to bed I discovered the TV in the room didn't work. I tried several times to call down to reception, but no-one ever answered.

This was very poor experience. No facility for Breakfast or dinner as refurbishment going on. Place very tired needs updating.
