It is common in the historical hotels keep the common areas amazing, but rooms are not updated. This hotel is clean and updated everywhere. People are very friendly, and service is great. I would say that food was overpriced, and quality was ok but not for this price range. The best food we had was in 1796 restaurant-steak was very good, however, breakfast buffet and tea ceremony did not impress... Food was on the heavy side and just not impressive.
