The property was perfect for resting after exploring around Te Anau. The host was engaging and gave terrific recommendations for the local area, as well as in our next destination in Queenstown.
When staying at the Shakespeare house, you feel like you’re staying with family. We loved how friendly and helpful everyone was. Perfect location and comfortable for our short but sweet stop in Te Anau :)

We had a wonderful stay. Liz and her husband were awesome. We felt welcome and comfortable.
The hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming. We had just finished the Milford Track and it was the perfect place to spend the night! Very clean, dry, and overall just lovely.
We really enjoyed our stay at Shakespeare House. Nathan and Liz are incredible hosts and the other staff very friendly and helpful. They provide excellent breakfasts which set you up well for the day and provides an opportunity to chat with the hosts and other guests. We were all comparing outings from the previous day and learning of new activities to do. We extended our stay an extra night to see more of this beautiful area! We look forward to staying here again.
We loved our stay here. Our room, although not that big, was very clean. Slightly unusual set up though with the rooms all off a long communal sitting area. An easy 10 minute walk into the centre of Te Anau where there is a good selection of places to eat, plus a large supermarket.
I can’t say enough good things about Shakespeare House! We stayed here after coming to Te Anau late from the Milford Sound area. With notice, the owners made arrangements for us to check in after-hours. The room was clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, and the owners were so kind and gave us some great tips for what to see and do during the next leg of our journey. Highly recommend this B&B!
Shakespeare House B&B is a fabulous place to stay in Te Anau. The accommodation was comfortable, breakfast was great, and Nathan and Liz were friendly and helpful hosts. I have coeliac disease and they catered for me with a choice of gluten free cereals & bread for toast kept separately with a dedicated gluten free toaster that is not available for general use. Highly recommended.
This is a wonderful place to stay in Te Anau.
The hosts Nathan & Liz are full of helpful info and tips to enjoy your stay. Breakfast is healthy and good variety. The room is clean neat and homey.
A lovely location, a short walk away from the breathtaking views of Lake Te Anau and beyond. The room was lovely and the staff were lovely! As it was off season, we were the only ones on site for the duration of our stay. There was laundry on site, a nice and airy living/common space, the kitchen was available for most of the day, so you could borrow cutlery and plates as required, use the communal fridge if you needed. The staff were so kind too, happy to help you plan your day or find your way around town. I would definitely stay again.
Check-in was good. Room was very small, which was not a problem. It was very clean, but poorly equipped. The room was for two people, but there was only one chair. There is no air conditioning, and portable fans are not available. Wi-Fi was fantastic!
The room was very clean, the staff were friendly and helpful. Lost one star mostly for the bathroom. The sink was ridiculously tiny and there was no electrical outlet. They have an odd requirement that you have to verbally tell the staff that you want a cooked breakfast the next morning, however, when we rang the bell to tell them the afternoon before no one answered. We then got involved chatting with another guest, which was very nice, but forgot to try the bell again. We had to leave earlier than anticipated the next morning so we could get breakfast in town. Other than that, staff was great and attentive. Don’t totally fault them, it’s an odd policy.
