Knocked a star off as the policy of not allowing guests to bring one bottle of wine and pay corkage struck me as weird for a hotel of this standard. We had a bottle which was special to us but we were not allowed to have it."

The estate itself is breath-taking. Walking along the coastal paths surrounding the two championship golf courses offered some of the best views in St Andrews."
