No church is mentioned in the Domesday book, although it may be identified with one of three churches attached to the Manor of Ridlington, north of Ayston. It was granted to the Abbey of Westminster in the eleventh century. The church itself dates from the fourteenth century onwards and consists of a western tower, nave with north and south aisles and clerestory, chancel and north chapel, organ chamber and vestry, and north and south porches. The tower is of three stages with angle buttresses and has a tall recessed spire with three tiers of lucarnes. There are eight bells.
