  • The Church of Santa Lucia, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, is located on the hill of the same name in the city of Viana do Castelo. The church was built on the site of a small medieval chapel, known as a pilgrimage site for people with eye diseases. The construction of the temple lasted from 1904 to 1959. The eclectic-style Miguel Ventura Terra project combines neo-romanticism, neo-Gothic and Byzantine architecture. It is generally accepted that the architect was inspired by the forms of the Sacre Coeur Basilica in Paris. To the foot of the church at a height of 195 meters above sea level there is a line of a funicular built in 1923. Tourists can take the elevator to the observation deck under the very dome of the church. A panoramic view of the Lima River valley, mountains and the Atlantic Ocean opens from the platform. In 1927, National Geographic magazine named this species the third most beautiful in the world.

Really nice hotel on the sea. Our room was fantastic, large terrace, large room and a comfortable bed. We ate in the restaurant both nights and were very impressed with the quality of the food and service. Thanks Helena!

I’m not sure I would have survived my pilgrimage from Lisbon to Santiago de Compostela without these 2 nights at the Flor de Sal - their spa and restaurants were invaluable! Excellent service and value! O

The property is on the water, but I became a four course meal while I slept! The hotel room and hallways were full of mosquitos!! The room was decent, however, the patio is not very private if you walk up to the railing, you can see your neighbors and into their rooms. They need to update carpeting on stairs, it has worn thru areas and shabby looking. Housekeeping could be better. I had an opened bottle of lotion left behind, and the minibar had an opened bottle of half drunk water sitting among the other items.

Rooms are great, rest not so good

Hotel rooms are nice with a beautifull view of the ocean. Around the hotel is nothing, no Restaurant no bar. Therefore i had to eat at the hotel. Food was bad. Also breakfast not so nice. Big problem at Restaurant that the server speaks no english. Could not answer any question. Not good for a 4 star hotel

Stay in a Sea View room or not stay at all

The hotel has a fantastic view if you stay in a room with sea view, otherwise not worth it. The hotel already has a few years and needs a " refresh" , especially on the floor of the wc's and painting in the halls . The SPA is in a gym that is right next to the hotel and there is a direct passage to it, but you lose the intimacy and at ease because we have to cross the gym in the hotel rob when there are people who are not from the hotel and are gym users. Good but we will not repeat .

Très beau hotel

Nous avons passé un excellent séjour à l’hôtel Flor do Sal. L’établissement est magnifique, avec un spa très agréable et un petit déjeuner copieux. Nous avons pu profiter d’une superbe vue sur la mer dans l’après-midi, jusqu’à environ 19h, avant que le brouillard ne s’installe et ne cache le paysage. Le même phénomène s’est reproduit au réveil, avec une mer invisible derrière la brume. Petit conseil : privilégiez une chambre côté mer, car du côté montagne il y a pas mal de circulation mine de rien. Malgré cela, l’hôtel reste une très belle adresse, confortable et reposante.

Fijn hotel in Viana

Hotel aan de kust, hele ruime kamer en badkamer, fijn ontbijt, 15 minuten lopen naar het centrum. Fijn om gebruik te kunnen maken van de naastgelegen gym met zwembad!
