The ruins of the Belgium Coke Ovens inside Vinton Furnace Experimental Forest. The ovens were built to produce coke from coal to use in the iron furnace. These structures at the Vinton site are thought to be the only existing ones in the world. The original structure built in the 1850's included twenty-four ovens: seventeen of which remain standing. Each oven is about 3 feet wide, 6 feet tall and 25 feet deep.

Now that the peak of the fall foliage has passed, you have to look harder for pops of color while hiking. This is the fruit of euonymous, bright red berries descending from pink sheaths.
All that remains of the Vinton Furnace, a coal furnace used to used to smelt iron in the late 1800's. The Vinton Furnace State Experimental Forest is a 15,849 acre state forest in Vinton County, Ohio.
