Discovered thousands of years ago, but popularized during the Russian imperial period, the mineral waters of Borjomi became renowned for their healing qualities. Russian figures such as Chekhov and Tchaikovsky visited Borjomi to relax in sanatoriums and drink the water. During the Soviet period, bottled Borjomi water became one of the Soviet Union's chief exports. If you travel to Borjomi, you can visit a central park and drink the warm water as it drips out of a spigot. You travel to this area, descend some steps, and fill your cups or bottles with the water. Entrance to the park is free before 9 AM - it costs fifty tetri the rest of the day. Grabbing some water for the day is a good excuse for an early morning rise.
