The New Ruschart Inn and Country dining

8/10 Good

"Friendly family business, good value. Comfortable bed and hot shower which was exactly what I needed after 18 hours of international travel. I stayed 2 nights in late September to attend a wedding in nearby Ripponden. The room was quite chilly but I actually like sleeping in a cold room. A space heater was provided, though I didn’t use it as the bed was cosy enough. It was handy that they served food downstairs and I really appreciated the vegetarian/vegan selections including veggie sausages for my bangers and mash dinner and full breakfast in the morning! Downsides to be mindful of: Noise carries a lot and the doors to the rooms are quite heavy and loud when being opened and closed, so keep this in mind if you are a light sleeper like me. I could hear snoring from another room at night and a TV/radio at 6am. Luckily I travel with earplugs so it wasn’t an issue for me. The bathroom has two taps, one scalding and one freezing (common in UK), not ideal for washing hands/face. The food was not the best quality (probably microwaved or from packages) so don’t expect gastropub standards but it got the job done and saved me having to figure out where to get a hot meal or find a takeaway. The bathroom wasn’t the cleanest (a couple of stray hairs in the shower and some dust/grime on the back of the toilet) and there was only the end of a loo roll (which I didn’t realise until the middle of my last night!) - nothing awful but probably the once-over between guests was skipped."

"The New Hobbitt Hotel was the first time we'd used a self checking facility and it was very efficient. We didn't really see any staff, other than in passing with housekeeping staff but rooms were very clean and well maintained. Beds were comfortable, water in the newly refurbished bathroom / shower was hot and towels were fluffy. The bottles of water, instant porridge and croissants were not expected but very welcome. There was plenty of parking. We would recomend this hotel and would be happy to stay again. Please note, the route from Sowerby Bridge town centre to the New Hobbit Hotel includes very steep hills and tight corners but the view is worth it!"

"This was our 6th stay at Croft Mill. On this occasion we were in a 2 bedroom apartment on the 2nd floor. It was spotless. The furniture was comfortable and so too was the beds, bedding and soft towels. It is also great having an allocated parking space and being in the centre of town, but a more prominent and robust notice is required regarding not parking too close to the sliding gate, rather than the flimsy paper one flapping in the wind and rain. My car got scraped along the bumper by someone pushing the gate open! The welcome breakfast box was basic, but good, but in the past has contained small samples of local produce eg cheese, bread, honey, etc which was lovely and usually resulted in us then seeking these out in the town and spending our money locally buying things to take home. Understandably I suppose cutbacks have had to be made in the current climate. In the twin bedroom, the beds were under the window, away from the wall containing the headboards and it was very draughty during the night. Also this arrangement meant that the radiator controls were difficult to reach for an elderly person. All of this being said, we WILL be back and these points are hopefully constructive feedback. Thank you Hayley."

"Room basic but clean. Facilities are slightly tired but adequate. The only slight complaint was that the shower was not much more than a dribble but the water was warm. Staff helpful and friendly. Note: Hebden Bridge is hilly and the hostel is up the hill from the town centre. It is not that far and should not put you off using the hostel"

"Lovely quirky little cottage with everything you need Bud stop just outside cottage in to Heben Bridge or can have a nice walk on public footpaths that doesn’t take too long Nice friendly pub next door would definitely stay again"
