"Third year staying here and what a different experience. Whether this was due to it being a bank holiday or not some things could have been better. On arrival not the usual warm welcome told we couldn’t book a table for food that night as not taking reservations, went outside and managed to book online!!!! Took 30 minutes queuing to check in and both nights took 25 minutes to queue for a drink and to order food at the bar. Ran out of beers second night and burgers on first night, considering we were told it’s like this all the time during holidays then you would expect enough stock to be ordered. The bar staff and those clearing the area worked really hard, credit to them. The breakfast system needs some thinking as you are constantly asked what room number you are when going up for the buffet and where the toaster is located blocks the way to the tables causing people to bump into one another. No fans in the room so had to open windows which not good being on a busy main road. Will seriously consider whether we would rebook again during the holiday season."
"Very old fashioned room desperately in need of a refurbishment and a deep clean. Would suit a couple in their 80’s as that was the decor.
Breakfast was nice, but when my wife ordered poached eggs on toast she got 1 egg on 1/2 piece of toast, was pretty funny as it looked sad on the plate.
Staff were lovely"
"Property staff were going arm and welcoming. The inn is dated and not exceptionally maintained. There were loose fittings, mold in bathrooms and the curtains were missing some hooks and drooped a bit. The location and setting were classic, but for the cost the quality lagged a bit."
"Excellent place. We stayed in room 40 in the annexe for families. It has a big and comfortable main bed and bunk beds for kids. Clean and airy, very large room for family with great size bathroom. Pub food was excellent we had the chicken for dinner with wine all good, and sticky toffee pudding was generous size two could share. Overall a great place and convenient close to grasmere, Ambleside and the zip World. Great stay very pleased."
"Our stay at the Waterhead Inn was even better than expected. The area was perfect - lovely and peaceful (despite it being the bank holiday weekend) but right on the lake, situated just a few meters away from where you can get the boat into Bowness, with 4 or 5 gorgeous beer gardens right on your doorstep. The staff were all so lovely, breakfast was delicious and the room was extremely spacious with huge, comfy beds! Will definitely be returning to this hotel for another relaxing break soon."
"Hotel was fine, but not exceptional. However, there were not enough staff to run the bars in the day/evening. Evening menus were fairly limited and the same each day.
We felt that the hotel was extremely overpriced based on the quality of service provided.
We stayed for 5 nights and each morning at breakfast we were asked if it was our first visit to the restaurant - an indication of how valued we felt as customers!"
"Have stayed before and staff very helpful and any problems they will deal with it. Rooms are lovely and I stayed in a suite with mountain view which is lovely. A fridge freezer and two microwaves are"
