Warm welcome at the Forresters
Very welcoming staff, check in was very quick and pleasant. The room was spacious, well equipped and the bed was comfy leading to a good sleep. Would certainly use again if in the area

Excellent!
Our short stay was excellent. The food was just delicious, the staff very friendly and helpful. The room was quirky but very comfortable. The only (very small) issue was that the TV didn't work but that did not spoil our stay at all. Overall, a strong recommendation.

Fantastic food
The hotel, rooms and food were as fantastic as ever and 12/10 for those. Frank even e-mailed me to ask if we needed a booking for the night we arrived as they were not cooking that night. However ....... and there is often a however ....... on the Tuesday we arrived the owner was away and the person in charge of the bar kept it open after closing time with exceedingly loud music. And the other however is that on Fridays they have some sort of music night for all the locals going on until 1 am on Saturday morning. Not so good if your room is over the bar and patio area and you need to get up early the next day (Saturday). Next time (and there probably will be a next time if you continue the great food Mrs Forrester) we will remember to avoid Fridays. Thank you very much for a lovely friendly stay and lovely staff.

Not bad
The room was slightly bizarre as it had an upstairs bathroom. However, the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. We were right above the bar, which was very noisy - however it all quietened down by midnight.

Lovely Hotel
Really nice Hotel. With a pub style bar and French Restaurant attached, selling quality food at a reasonable price. The well fitted bathroom had a bath and shower, it was situated upstairs above the bedroom, and was "open plan".

Brilliant place and local walks
Brilliqnt food and very good beer gardens front and back. Staff outstanding. Walks are on your door steps. Only constructive critisism is T.V in rooms need up dating . I will be going again when more restroctions are lifted.

Friendly welcome
A relaxed and safe atmosphere. Delicious meal, great value. A couple of issues with the room dealt with in an apologetic and constructive way.

Nice clean room with separate bathroom up stairs. Dog friendly. Lovely village. We had a meal in the evening which was very good.

A Hidden Gem n the Durham Dales
The room was really lovely and it was great to have the freestanding bath for lots of bubbles! The huge bed was perfect as we have a super-king bed at home and we both had a brilliant nights sleep. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was perfect. We both chose Gruyere the souffle with spiced mango jam as a starter which was amazing. My main course was the seafood risotto with beautifully cooked king scallops on top and my hubby had the Gruyere and Dijon Mustard topped fish pie that was equally outstanding. Although quite stuffed we still managed sticky toffee pudding for me and white chocolate and strawberry ring eclair for him. All was washed down with a decent bottle of Chardonnay. The staff were really friendly and offered a lovely service and i would highly recommend Forresters. We will certainly be going again!

Restaurant serving french fare excellent. Choise of decore in bedrooms different, not necessarily in a calm and relaxing way. As was language in public bar.

More of an inn than a hotel
It’s more of an inn than an hotel. The stairwell had seen better days and I wondered what room would be like but actually it was a good size, fresh, well equipped and very clean. Good Wi-fi too. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant downstairs was reasonably priced and served very tasty food.

We stopped at Forresters while walking the Teesdale Way. The rooms were clean and attractive and the staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was very fancy but we didn’t patronise it.

Great food
Good central location. Fortunately the weather wasn’t too warm as the Window was very small. Had an evening meal which was very nice and a reasonable price. Friendly Staff

WiFi does not work in room and restaurant was closed for food when I arrived at 2045hrs, pub across road stopped serving food at 2100 so I ended up going to co op for sandwiches.

Staff were lovely and could not have been more helpful. This hotel has a family atmosphere and we were made welcome. The restaurant area is comfortable and the bar is light and airy and relaxing. Our room was directly above the bar, so if that might be a problem for you it’s worth asking for a quiet room. They did tell us about it immediately on arrival and offered to move us if we preferred, but we knew it wouldn’t worry us. It wasn’t actually too noisy and it was quiet by midnight. Our room was clean and well-decorated, if small, with an upstairs en-suite, which was new and very clean. The bed was comfortable and bedding was impeccably white! We’d booked room only but they were happy to add breakfast onto our bill and we had one evening meal which we enjoyed very much. This dog-friendly hotel was perfect for our 3 night stay, we would book again.

Weekend away
The hotel is lovely and the food excellent. Only down side breakfast would cost £15 per person which is extremely expensive in comparison to other hotels we have stayed in.

Good friendly hotel. A good base for many walks
We stayed 2 nights. Our room was clean &warm. The breakfast was lovely. We ate here one evening & the food was amazing. The service was brilliant. We loved it so much we booked a return trip later in the year.

Fantastic getaway
A very last minute decision to travel and this was convenient for a stop over. Lovely setting, shame we just stayed the night. The room was amazing and so was the food in the restaurant. Owner Frank was very hospitable and we felt at home straight away.
