  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. The quadruple family room was spacious and clean and well equipped for everything we needed. The hotel is well located to walk to the main sights and across the town, very close to the grote markt, and lots of nice restaurants while still being quiet. Staff were very helpful with any information we needed. I would definitely stay here again.

Great stay!

The location of the hotel is great. We enjoyed the breakfast and while the room is small, it’s average for Europe and it is updated with a fridge. The walls are a bit thin and the sound carries but it was quiet by 1030pm and didn’t interfere with our sleep. I would stay here again recommend it to friends. Brugge is a beautiful place and this hotel is centrally located.

Clean and comfortable room with spacious shower room and decent air con. Nice quiet street just a few minutes walk from the main square and everything we wanted yo do. Decent buffet breakfast

Our experience at Hotel du Théâtre was great — everything was clean and comfortable and we did not lack for anything. The staff at reception is very helpful and friendly. As we were traveling with bikes, the hotel was able to provide a secure location for us to store our bikes overnight that is off the street.
