  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. Fantastic hotel conveniently located near the historic centre of Bruges. Beautiful large room with very high ceiling and windows that you can open also coffee, tea in the room. It was clean and quiet...we stayed 4 days and the only min was the rain.

Breakfast has a good variety of food & drinks. Room is a good size and the bed is very comfy. No restaurant on-site for other meal periods, however, is very close to the main square with all other restaurants. SPA is a nice addition to the hotel, if you can extend the opening hour will be even better.

The Dukes Arches was fabulous. Very posh, very clean and accommodating. We felt very pampered. The breakfast had so many options. The location was fantastic too. Would return in a heartbeat.

the breakfast is a true European continental breakfast. the hotel staff were friendly and excellent in their knowledge of the area. We would definitely return to the Duke Arches if we return to Brugge. The city is our favorite from the 4 we visited in Belgium.

Wonderful property. Staff is very pleasant and helpful. Rooms are on the smaller side (two adults with two large suitcases were a bit cramped) but as an older/historic property it was expected. Breakfast was amazing. Hotel is a couple of blocks from town center and very walkable.

Short trip to Bruges

Good 4# hotel in a central position. Excellent choice for breakfast very clean peaceful hotel.Bathroom mirror could do with more lighting, shaving in shade not easy .Overall I would recommend this hotel and stay there again
