Bull Creek State Wilderness Tours

In the 1920s, the remaining towering Giant Redwood trees were threatened by logging. Its champions brought H.D. Rockefeller to visit, who was impressed enough to help the state of California buy this particularly thick stand of the world's tallest trees from the logging company that owned it.

These trees live so long because, for one thing, they can withstand millennia of fires. Their lower bark is thick and has little pitch, and the nearest needles can be hundreds of feet up in the air where fire can't reach them!

This view is from the inside of a tree hollowed out from centuries of natural processes, including fire and weather, but it's still alive at the top!
