As locals we are invested in the building, having followed its restoration over the years, not least with considerable financial help from the county and borough councils. “A lovely clean room.....staff were very friendly and helpful...breakfast was fresh and good. Bar was busy with very friendly customers. We traveled down from Scarborough for football v Buxton...after the game the bar was very busy but the home supporters made us very welcom.”

“Expedia listing did not say the room I booked was basically a basement prison cell without the benefit of a window. Horrible. No one answers the phone at this property. When you call the number on Google you get charged, even if you hang up the moment you hear the voice saying you’ll be charged. Car Park blocked by bad parker , despite telling the front desk, car did not move so I had to park off site. Never stay at any hotel managed by this chain for the sketchy phone system alone. “We had a lovely stay, easy to find with nice touches of bread jam cereal and eggs. Would like a bedside lamp to be able to read and a small hoover or broom as we were staying a week .but apart from that couldn’t fault it at all, lovely to meet the owners who were helpful and friendly . Huge comfy bed and nice to be able to do the washing as the weather wasn’t good ”

“The staff and the breakfast were amazing however the rooms have no shampoo (body wash is not going to do it for me), no lotion, no tissues and no phone. No phone makes it extremely difficult for overseas visitors to contact reception. Even the charming lady on reception who confirmed that these amenities were not offered in the hotel states that they were a budget hotel ‘but maybe not - we are quite expensive’. ”

“Average stay, tv not receiving signal, boiler broke down, although owner came out to fix within a few hours. Very poor welcome pack (small bottle of milk). No logs or kindling for log burner. View from back of cottage spoilt by messy and junk strewn garden. Nice location with good pubs in village that did good food, just check what days they open.”
