We've pulled together all the info you need to make your journey as pain-free as possible. Follow our insider tips and you'll be hightailing it through airport security and having a blast in Allred in no time. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Flying can be a comfortable experience if you take the right stuff. First things first, you'll need basic toiletries, such as deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush, a clean set of clothes and a magazine or two. Secondly, find room in your carry-on bag for your laptop, a charger, any daily medications and perhaps a comfy neck pillow as well. Last, but definitely not least, be sure to take your passport, travel papers and your bank cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Squeeze all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hair gel in your checked baggage. Any gels or liquids in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated by authorities. Pointed or sharp objects, like your precious pocket knife, and products which are explosive or flammable, such as aerosol cans, spray paint and strong acids, are also prohibited.
What to wear on a flight:
- The goal here is to be as comfortable as possible. Layer up with loose, natural-fiber clothing and remember to pack a jacket in case it gets cool in the cabin. Opt for well-fitting, flat shoes as your feet may swell a little during the flight. Leave the stilettos and heavy hiking boots in your checked baggage.
- Unfortunately, one risk of long-distance flying is developing DVT (deep vein thrombosis), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged inactivity. To prevent this, make the most of every opportunity to walk around the cabin and stretch your legs. Compression socks and tights are also a great idea to help minimize this risk.
