Wherever you're coming from, flying can be a pleasant experience if you've planned ahead. We've compiled a list of handy tips and tricks that will help get your Gag Island escape started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Flying can be a pleasure if you take the right stuff. First things first, you'll need toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and hairbrush, a spare change of clothes and a magazine or two. Next, leave space in your hand luggage for your phone and charger, your medications and perhaps a neck pillow as well. Lastly, be sure to bring your passport, travel papers and your bank cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Put all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hairspray in your checked luggage. Any gels or liquids in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated by security. Sharp objects, like your pocket knife, and dangerous products which are explosive or flammable, such as aerosol cans, flares and poisons, are also banned.
What to wear on a flight:
- You'll want to choose comfort over style. Prepare for temperature changes in the cabin by donning layers, and pick closed-toe, flat footwear like sneakers.
- Most of us have heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by long periods of sitting. To minimize your risk on board, drink plenty of water, consider wearing compression tights or socks and move your legs and feet often.
