• Unfortunately, a risk of long-haul flights is developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged periods of inactivity. To prevent this, make the most of every opportunity to walk around and give your legs a stretch. Compression tights and socks are also a great idea to help lower your risk.

The secret is to be well prepared before you reach airport security. That way, you'll be boarding that plane to Mountain Center in a flash. Follow these tips and get your trip off to a great start:

• Security personnel first need to verify that you have a valid passport and travel documents before you can proceed any further. Have them in your hand, ready for inspection.
• The X-ray machine is up next. Empty your pockets and remove anything that is likely to set off the scanner's alarm. This includes things like earphones or headphones, as well as your coat or jacket. They'll all need to go on the X-ray conveyor belt.
