No matter where you're coming from, flying can be a pleasurable experience if you've prepared well enough. We've put together a list of handy tips and tricks that will help get your Wayside vacation started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Air travel can be easy if you bring the right gear. First things first, you'll need toiletry items, such as lip balm and hand cream, a spare pair of socks and something to read. Secondly, find room in your bag for your phone, tablet and chargers, any medications and maybe a neck pillow as well. Lastly, be sure to take your passport, travel docs and some money.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Pack all your full-sized bottles of hair gel and hairspray in your checked baggage. Any liquids in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated by security. Pointed or sharp objects, like your beloved pocket knife, and dangerous products which are explosive or flammable, such as flares, chemicals agents and matches, are also not allowed.
What to wear on a flight:
- Your goal here is to be as comfortable as possible. Don layers of breathable clothing and bring a cardigan in case it gets cool. Opt for a pair of flat, well-fitting shoes as your feet may swell a little during the flight. Leave the stilettos and heavy hiking boots in your checked baggage.
- Most travelers are aware of DVT (deep vein thrombosis), a blood clot condition caused by long periods of sitting. There's plenty you can do to lower your risk. Don a pair of compression tights or socks, stay well hydrated and remember to keep your legs and feet moving. Wander up and down the aisles of the cabin or try out some simple stretches in your seat.
