Top Cramahe Township Public Library - Castleton Branch Hotel Reviews
Comfort Inn Cobourg
10/10 Excellent
"Great place to stay while on the road! Special shout-out for the free breakfast which was plentiful, neatly laid out and delicious. All staff we encountered were very friendly. Had to you the fridge because it was noisy but other than that the room was quiet. Bathroom was clean and lots of towels available."
"This hotel bills itself as a “Boutique Hotel” but it seemed like a kitschy way of explaining why the property was frozen in the 80’s.
My room (king suite) was very spacious, but had many issues: crumpled tissues and other small litter left on the floor, small blood stains on the bed sheet, insufficient towels, stopper for tub did not work. These all can be put down to lack of attention by cleaning staff.
Fortunately the duty staff was excellent in resolving all the issues and even offered to move me to another room. I was pleasantly surprised by a partial refund when I checked out the next day.
The continental breakfast was very limited, so if you’re a big eater you might want to plan to go out for breakfast.
Upon checking in, the hotel will offer you a coupon for 15% off a number of downtown restaurants. I urge you to take advantage of this, the restaurants were all nearby(5-10) walking distance) and their offerings were very good. We went to the Brick House Craft Burger Restaurant and the food and prices were excellent!!
One final note is parking. The hotel offers free parking at the local municipal parking garage, but it is a 5 minute block-and-half away.
Despite the issues with the room, we would be willing to go back to this hotel."
"My main issue with this hotel was the poor sound insulation. The walls and doors let a lot of noise through, especially loud door slamming during the evening and night. I woke up several times because of the noise, which made my stay uncomfortable. I find this level of noise disturbance unacceptable for a hotel stay.
Another issue was the flooring in the room. The floor was extremely cold, there were no carpets, and the hotel did not provide slippers or sandals. Most guests do not automatically plan to bring their own, especially since hotel rooms usually have carpets or basic indoor slippers for comfort."
"Pro’s - The room we stayed in was clean and bug free. There was lots of parking. The property backed on to the water. The staff (we only saw 2 workers) were moderately friendly.
Con’s - property and rooms were very dated and not well maintained. A few things were broken (TV remote and juice machine). The first room we were shown had bugs in the window, both inside and in between the glass and the fireplace was not functioning. Breakfast was acceptable but not great. The building and property were not well maintained. There was no path down to the lake, it was uneven ground and grass with an abandoned “cottage” near the water. There were 3 levels, upper, ground and lower (below ground), think “back split”. The lower level felt like you were staying in someone’s basement. The phone for the room was unplugged, wrapped up and placed in a drawer. The building and grounds were not warm and inviting, they felt more institutional and cold.
We stayed in a Best Western in Huntsville, with the same type of room, for almost the exact same price and the Best Western was so much better.
We would not return here again."
"We arrived later in the evening and when we pulled the sheets back, there was hair and a small bug. We immediately went to the front desk and asked for another room - we were told they were sold out, even though Expedia said they had availability. THEN we said fine can we just get another set of sheets - THEY SAID NO, they didn’t have any !!! We had not choice but to deal with the nastiness. We slept on top of sheets after killing the bug ourself. Our kids swim I. The pool, which the bottom was full of sand / dirt….weird as there’s no sand / beach in sight. Next morning, we noticed a half eaten - rotten - apple laying beside the desk. Upon check out we asked for the manager and requested a refund. Denied. We received a lip-service email after we left town saying they will “talk to their team” and can offer a discount on our next visit. LOL - there for sure won’t be a next visit. There are plenty of hotels in the area, I’d recommend going to any of them."
