Traveling Zimbabwe these days is not an easy feat and the search for appropriate accommodation can take time.
The Sunbird Lodge in Harare is one of the exceptional experiences we had in Zimbabwe. It is positioned in a quiet and highly secure cul-de-sac, surrounded by a manicured garden and visited by a multitude of different birds that would make even a birder happy. The rooms are spacious, the linen top notch and the bathrooms modernised according to first world specs.
My room opened out to a little veranda with fairy lights and outdoor furniture to spend sunrise and sunset in pristine tranquility. The lodge is divided into two buildings, No. 3 and No.23 - both about 200m away from each other, only No.3 has a pool, maybe to be mentioned when booking.
Both have impeccable high speed internet, which was not interrupted once during our 4 day stay, the breakfast is cooked by the staff, English breakfast cooked to perfection without GMO products, Cereals, tasty yoghurt and a variety of jams, Ground Coffee from the plunger and a juice are rounding the breakfast up.
The kitchen is open and accessible and sports an honesty bar in form of the fridge being stocked with beers, juices, soft drinks...but no wine. One of the highlights was Costa, our breakfast chef, concierge and go-to-manager, who started one day baking cookies....the smell lingered, the cookies didn't last long ;-) "Value for Money" would be an understatement!
